Spelunky is such a fantastic games, and I'm glad Scoops is doing this, if only to raise awareness as to how great this game is. It's also really fun to watch someone else learn the rules the hard way.

After the first few days of great success, it's weirdly nice to see some balance restored. If nothing else, the deaths in this episode provide some valuable learning experiences. Mainly? Treat tiki traps with great respect and fear.

Don't pick up the idols in the Mines, it's just NOT worth it. Boulder can destroy items you need, altars (which sets you back in Kali favor, making it harder to get a Kapala) and anger shopkeepers for the rest of the run and almost no reward. Later worlds have safer idols and better rewards.

At least he died many different ways today.

Hey, @patrickklepek, you don't need to fear a Kali altar if you destroy one. It's not like untouched ones will attack you if you go near it after you destroy one. Just...don't destroy another one after you destroy the first one.

Also, you probably don't need to stream it from a PS3...in fact, the PSN versions of the game have different daily challenges than the PC version, which shouldn't be too graphics intensive to run on your Macbook if you're headed into the CAH offices.

@suits: If you plan on buying the ankh then it can be a valuable strategy. There are times when it's safe to take. I typically check the surrounding areas for the altar and shop first. If they are above then it's safe to take. Obviously if it's at the top of the level and you haven't scouted yet then don't take it, but it's perfectly fine to take if you check first. Of course, Patrick doesn't check.

Great feature @patrickklepek

I know you don't want many tips. But I think it would be a good idea to try and lean the spring boots during the practice runs. Can be great for mobility and can save you a rope every now and then.

And so Patrick learns a harsh lesson about the mattock and blocks that can crush you. He's not the only one that has learned that way. When it happened to me, I pretty much had the same reaction.

The fun thing about that daily is that there was a jetpack in that mystery box in 1-2. That was a happy discovery! I made it to the black market, but then screwed up in robbing the place.

Oh, @patrickklepek , the teleporter truly is your bane, but if it doesn't make for some truly entertaining ends. I find these far more interesting to watch than Dota, These are a lot of fun. Keep up the good work.

Don't worry about bulls*** ends. That's how 98% of Spelunky runs wind up, and the other 2% are suicides.

I know the guys from Destructoid on You Tube have done a lot of the Daily Challenge, and they do pretty well. The two flip a coin to see who goes first, and it also had a really nice twist where they would talk about a famous death from the day. Anthony Burch, of HAWP, has also posted a lot of video runs of the challenge. Watching them may provide tips, but it also may spoil some of the fun of the discovery.

I have seen that on the PC version you can mod it with custom characters. Though, I'm unaware of how that's specifically done.

I died on my first jump today. Hit a bat, bounced off a spider, landed on spikes.

One of your duders is #2 on the leaderboard today. Looking forward to being #last!

@patrickklepek Patrick, don't be afraid to use the dog as a projectile, the way you'd throw a rock or an arrow; it won't hurt them and can be used to safely kill enemies without fear of them bouncing back and hurting you. Also, they have four hearts, so they can take a bit of a beating and even act as a shield against an arrow trap, so long as you get them to the exit alive.

Quality of life pro-tip: you can drop an idol in a shop to sell it instead of lugging it to the exit. He'll buy it for the same price.

This feature made me buy Spelunky. It's so goddamn addictive even though I'm terrible and have only got past the mines twice so far. Requires 100% concentration. Keep it going Paddy.

Area 4 is the "last" area if you just want to beat the game. Shortcuts are really only useful for familiarizing yourself with the enemies and traps in each area, though. It's usually best to start from 1-1 so you can get all those great items which make the later areas a bit more tolerable.

I've been pretty ambivalent about Spelunky since I bought it at release. I had some fun with the game but never put in enough time to really start enjoying it. However, thanks to this feature and Remo talking about it on every Idle Thumbs for the past whoknowshowlong, I've given it another go and am loving it.

Also, now that I have the Vita version, I can play it anywhere which adds a fun challenge: trying not to curse like a sailor in public.

I don't really find any additional item necessary to go through each area. The more worlds you have to go through, the more chance you will get instant killed. I never make it all the way from 1-1 to the boss. It's easier to start at 4-1 (if you're good and lucky enough to unlock its shortcut).
