Something I'd recommend you should try at least once, especially on stream, Patrick. You should destroy several of Kali's altar (I think two). I wont tell you what it does when you make her angry enough. Just that it should be seen at least once. Just never do it on a run you really care about.

It's hilarious, but it will get you killed.

A tip on Ghost Running. Use the whip to try and gather jewels together as close as possible. That way you don't have to get the ghost to move too far. You can whip pretty much any object to move it along the floor and over ledges.

The mega guide on the Steam community hub is also REALLY informative.

Man so sad Patrick got killed by that psychic alien. This is why I don't starting from 1-1, because in are 3 and 4 there are plenty of things that can instantly kill me regardless of how many items I have.

I'm loving this series and it has really inspired me to get back into Spelunky. I had bought it on sale on XBL over a year ago and ended up not playing much. I had only reached the jungle once or twice. In the few days since I have started playing again, I have reached the Ice Caves a few times and even reached the Temple once! I have really learned a lot from watching Patrick play!

And just yesterday I had the X-Ray specs and I was surprised to see a jetpack buried in the ground! I bombed that right out and I'm always keeping a closer eye out now for any buried goodies.

I'm really bummed out, though, that there is no daily challenge on the XBLA version. I wonder why they haven't updated it, especially considering it's been available on Xbox 360 longer than any other platform (as far as I'm aware).

Worst thing about watching video games get played is building up self-hype and a need to play the game.

Watched the Deadly Premonition ER, had to play DP at some point. Got it from the Steam Holiday sale.

Watching the Polaris Speed Bowl on Youtube, had to play some Blood Bowl.

Watching Patrick play Spleunky every day, makes me want to play more Spelunky!

EDIT: Beginning to think it's more fun to watch just to see Patrick's death reactions. The Daily Death! Priceless!

I for some reason had not looked into Spelunky whatsoever before I started watching these videos, and now I'm super hooked on this game, and loving this series! Thanks Patrick!

Bit of schadenfreude here, but seeing how good your first runs were, it's nice that it's been balancing out a bit. It's a great game to get mad at. ;)

Another handful of tips from watching you play:

1. You canʼt see hidden items without the Spectacles or Udjat Eye. (e.g. the mattock at the bottom of a snake pit—there is always one there)

2. Just like thereʼs always a mattock at the bottom of a snake pit, thereʼs always a jetpack behind the psychic aliens in the Ice Caves.

3. You canʼt hurt enemies with your whip when theyʼre stunned. (weapons and spikes will do damage though)

4. Throwing:

    • You can throw the “damsel” at enemies without hurting it.
    • You can also throw the torch on dark levels.
    • And you can throw items at a downward angle if youʼre jumping.

5. In the Jungle/Ice Caves, maybe try throwing a damsel on the sticky red thing and hanging out on it for a while…

P.S. SACRIFICE EVERYTHING. Damsels, stunned enemies, and corpses. Itʼs worth the time and effort.

I actually didn't know number 2? And I've dumped a few hundred hours into this game. So thanks for that. Keep it up, Scoops!

Does anyone else get really bothered by how Patrick treats the dog? I know it's just a game but it still really rubs me the wrong way when I see the poor pup die

Oh hell yeah, dude. I obviously shrug it off because it's just a game mechanic, but it does kind of sadden me to see that pup laying there dead.

Oh wow, watching Patrick see the key in the first run being walled off, getting a mattock in the giftbox, then saying "oh damn :{" and leaving it there while he goes and bombs his way in. Painful, so painful.

This is such a great series though, spelunky is one of those great games that is as much fun to watch as play

I finally got the 500k achievement that was taunting me this morning (despite having already completed the journal), and in the daily no less! Then got killed by a shopkeeper at the start of Hell. But still, keep it up Patrick, the good runs are waiting for you.

That game does seem serious. Very serious.
