At one point I just stopped doing practice runs, because it's easier to have good runs right away

That's kind of where I think I'm at. I need to switch up the format of this. Do the daily first, then do practice runs with experimental nonsense.

Each normal level has a very small chance to play a secret chiptune-style BGM. There's one for each of the four main worlds. They're all pretty great!

(Consider buying the Spelunky soundtrack if you haven't!)

@patrickklepek: I like that idea a lot. Even consider just doing a run and uploading that if it's a reasonable length. It's getting to be a crazy amount of Spelunkying!

Oh god, Patrick going nuts with the teleporter; the best. I'm too afraid to even pick that thing up after I killed myself with it the first time.

Edit: I totally didn't realize that the spike shoes improved jump damage. I thought they were just to provide traction on the ice levels. I'm learning a lot from these runs.

That opening run couldn't have been better. Or worse.

I had to skip my practice run to start the daily on PSN before the deadline yesterday. Ended up scoring 456K.

Practice can really screw you up if are are playing with a jetpack/climbing glove mentality then need to play vanilla at the start of the next run.

This is getting out of hand. Squash the threat, Tricky!

Or...you could turn the volume down to a reasonable level?

Let me lay it on the lines brothers. The hype machine for the Spelunky daily challenge has gone crazy nuclear. And I'm loving it! Mothers comin' outta the wood work trying to prove their dominance by planting their flag on top of money mountain. Heck all the evidence points to Remo sending in undercover spies, dressed up as vacuuming cleaning ladies. Remo heard the latest hotness that is Lang conceived "Bat-Tech". So he gets all James Bond 007 on us and has his "cleaning lady" plant bugs in the Cards Against Humanity office. Chicago won't stand for it sucker. Yo, Remo...Master Max Temkin is hip to your jive. He is guiding his young apprentice Scoops to next level techniques son. Where does this madness all end? Jeff "Monsterdunk" Gerstmann needs to cut a wrestling inspired promo video on top of some roof, complete with arms raised high, 360 camera pan. Gerstmann needs to call out punk ass challengers and raise the stakes. Or maybe this ends all horribly wrong. With Remo and Scoops actually fighting it out in real life in some Temple of Doom level shit cave somewhere...

I feel sooooooooooo much better when you fail on a potential hell run because I have never been to hell. I got about as close as a person can once and failed. I'm still rooting for you to do well, but the closer you get to the city of gold, the more I want you to fail.

I was the complete opposite. At first I didn't realize they added traction on the ice, and thought they only were good for stomping fools.

Yup. Same here. Usually my first run is the best one as long as I'm not having a bad day overall... made the top 100 a couple of times.

I've watched all of these I think... taught me lots of stuff i didn't know, too. Dat bat-tech XD, very useful to reach spiders a row too high.

Am I the only one who wishes he could twirl around while wearing the cape to kill enemies and then has to tell himself this ain't Super Mario World? I get that feeling almost every time I put on the cape.

Everyone should stream their daily challenge, or better yet, do a 3-way live stream with all 3 starting at the same time... Ok, maybe Spelunky burnout will set in that much quicker, but this has become one of my favorite features.

I can only imagine what Patrick's reaction will be the day Jeff beats him.

That cheap fall, Remo's crazy high score, BARELY beating Jeff, a new challenge from Brad. My brain is still reeling from all these revelations.

The ending to this is fucking hilarious.

I just want a cavalcade of new contenders to emerge and patrick starts slowly getting beaten by them all.
