Edit: Patrick... you really need to learn how the "Armory" rooms work.

You need FULL health in order to access a regular one (swords above it).

You must have a heart or less to access the boss challenge rooms (Two swords crossed through skull).

Patrick, what do you think of the story so far? I like how different aspects of the game contribute to the narrative, like the loading screen animations, the enemies, the items and their descriptions, the multiple characters and their endings, and the bosses. It was interesting piecing it together.

Finally cleared Mom's Heart for the first time today, and I definitely feel like it's thanks to seeing other people in action (and learning all the weird oddities of the game from chat).

The Spelunky streams had the same effect; I most likely never would have pushed through to Yama if not for those.

Yeah, I don't mind the multiple completions needed for additional items - you unlock lots of items by completing challenges or beating different bosses with different characters, forcing you to try different strategies and less-used characters to get everything - but the pure grinding to unlock the extra levels is fairly annoying. Should just unlock successively as you beat the bosses. Though I think playing on stream exacerbates that issue since you want to see and show off new stuff.

Patrick, what you could have done with that angel heart was save it for after your fight with Gurdy Jr. You only need to have it with you when you walk through the exit for it to turn into another heart container.

I think they should've done it like Spelunky and many roguelikes, where unlocking new content is hidden behind a sometimes obtuse series of things you need to do, but which you can do from the start if you know about it, instead of just having to grind through the same stuff over and over until you've done it enough times for it to unlock. The challenges could certainly be mutually exclusive, like going for a run about this will force you to skip steps that would've let you take on another boss, but straight up having you finish the same boss 10 times (or whatever the count was) isn't great.

Nice to see Patrick unlock Dr. Fetus. It's pretty much a carry item. Also other things I would like to see Patrick do before he's done. Find a "error room". Beat Satan. Beat Isaac, Beat XXX. Unlock XXX. Find a super secret room, he did yesterday but I don't think he realized he did.

Patrick, you don't have to sacrifice hearts EVERY time you get a devil room. Hearts are key in this game. If you ever make it to the end boss you will find that out quick.

@kamen24: I believe Patrick did find an error room a few episodes back.

The Challenge Runs are also nice for unlocking the deeper levels of the game. I recommend running through those. They're not too difficult, all in all, and the way they change things up is fun. Some of them really change the way you play the game.

I'm liking this stream an awful lot, and look forward to the future. I'll give one piece of strategy hint, though. I think there's a lot of how Spelunky and Risk of Rain train you to go through the levels swiftly that is really a bad habit for Binding of Isaac. Binding of Isaac rewards thorough, cautious play. Especially in those early levels, a bomb or a key can be the difference between a good run and a bad run. As an expansion of that, always explore the level fully before you burn any resources. You never know what you might find.

Is it odd to say I will not ever get tired of that intro? Also Patrick, did you ever get to upload that TED talk you did in Michigan, I would love to see it.

@patrickklepek: I would like to thank you a great deal for this feature. I've been in the hospital for 4 weeks with no tv or computer and this feature as well as other GB stuff has been some of the few things I've been able to stream to my phone to keep myself entertained when I'm not having visitors. So thank you for this great series of videos!

Totally agree that it's a bummer you can't progress without grinding the same boss multiple times. Have you tried Spidermod? Apparently you can use it to unlock the later levels saving some frustration.
