Eternal Darkness is incredible if you think Resident Evil holds up or the original silent hill then Eternal Darkness holds up much better. No tank controls or fixed camera or terrible voice acting here folks. Dan you have no idea what you are talking about! Also they should rerelease Paper Mario TTYD.

I've got a 3 hour bus ride ahead of me, time to make an otherwise terrible bus ride into an amazing one by listening to the bestcast.

But what does Dan's vault smell like?

Truth. Eternal Darkness was probably the first time I experienced genuine terror playing a video game (second was probably Silent Hill 2, which I'm sure I played for the first time shortly after). Graphically, Silent Hill 1 doesn't really hold up super great, and the original Resident Evil felt outdated even by the time Resi2 rolled around. Of course, that's just my opinion!

Dan ought to watch eXistenZ. That'd probably make for a good Film & 40s, honestly.

Dan's right, Assassin's Creed has always controlled like shit, fuck those games.

Dan's wrong, it's too bad some people can't grasp the controls in the early games, Assassin's Creed is a great franchise.

Now I can't wait to get to work to give this a listen. Garnett always had a great podcasting voice.

Die in a fire, Square Enix. It looks like they won't be happy until they've killed of every Western IP / franchise from Eidos (e.g. Deus Ex, and Thief); and the ludicrously high expectations you have (see: Tomb Raider).

Meanwhile, SE's Japanese divisions take absurd amounts of time (and $$$), sitting on franchises like FF and KH, just to faff about, producing trailers for games not even released.

I hope IO and Hitman find a new home.

I wonder how many people out there played all the yearly Assassin's Creed games. I was good after finishing 2, personally, though I did check in briefly with Black Flag. Like, I don't think the gameplay in those games was deep enough and fun enough to warrant a decade of Assassin's Creed games, a new one every year.

@redhotchilimist: I was way into them and played them back to back from AC 1 to AC 2, to Brotherhood, to whatever was after that, to AC 3, which was where my interest started to wane. I liked what I played of Black flag but was pretty burnt out by then, never finished, and haven't gone back since.

Real excited to listen to Abby for the first time though.

Dan is Right and Wrong, imo. AC is a great franchise, putting aside all the bullshit that comes from adam's apple and aliens. As for controls, I clearly remember Altair (1st game) controlling pretty well, although, when Ezio came is first games had new mechanics and sometimes when trying to move through roofs he would randomly leap of it, just because you tilted the analog a bit to right/left.

I didnt play 3, and I'm glad i didnt since the tree stuff was not fully realized, but they fixed by 4, and i loved Black Flag, i didnt put it down until i finished the game.

The Steve Coogan character you were trying to think of is the legendary Alan Partridge. The other guy from The Trip was Rob Brydon.

Hitman - I felt a bit tired and/or burned from some of the more recent releases and hearing that it was episodic game me more reason for hestiation.

By the time everybody started talking bout how great it was, I was playing other things and there was a weird mix of wanting to wait until the game was complete vs. knowing I was missing out on the limited duration events (I forgot what these were called.)

I now plan on buying the game, but not until I clear out my massive backlog or it becomes really cheap (buying out of principle, but expecting I will not have the time to ever play it.)

It's unfortunate, given that this game was highly praised, but the release process really missed the mark.

I'm getting out of my seat for Dom Joly.
