My birthday week is gonna have an election and a console launch? Turning 35 is gonna be nuts.

Also, I'm with Alex, PC deep dives are very unappealing. And hearing about personal custom PC specs puts me to sleep.

1:07 Vinny just straight drops a Dark Tower reference right when I'm reading that part of the book.

Sweeney's concern over the UWP framework wasn't his alone. Don't forget that in the wake of MS rolling out UWP we also saw Valve go as far as to release SteamOS and invest heavily in OpenGL as a viable alternative to D3D, which always struck me as a life raft in case Windows was able to pivot their business model. During that time MS was pushing that framework very prominently in Visual Studio and all their dev education/tutorials, even tutorials for DX12 felt like they were as much UWP tutorials as they were DX12. Windows 10 still has a system setting for restricting app installations from only the Windows Store -- the "recommended" option, citing it as more secure -- not altogether different language than what you see from platforms like Android and Oculus regarding sideloading.

Every time I have to fight with "WindowsApp" folder ownership permissions just to see what games are installed there or trying to do a drive backup I'm simultaneously annoyed and grateful.

So easy to use thermal paste. If that's difficult or messy, I wonder at a person's aptitude for doing anything at all manually. Brad did mention that graphite pads are not as efficient as paste. So for me thermal paste is my go to product. At the moment I am building 2 PCs and will definitely be using thermal paste.

Having said my bit, I believe you have to use whatever you are comfortable with using. My daughter is so nervous when putting a PC together, a graphite pad may be the answer for her. :)

I assume Alex has only ever seen nutjob David Icke referenced in text. Either that or he was getting mixed up with Darth Ikie :D

Hey there Vinny :)

Glitter Force is based on a long running series of anime shows called Precure.

While aimed at kids, the original Japanese version puts empowering messages for young girls at the forefront, and sometimes deals with heavier topics like insecurities and loss. It has some kickass fights too!

Netflix removed full episodes and changed some darker motifs completely in the dub to make it "safer" for American kids.

Precure is obviosly inspired by Sailor Moon, but does a lot of things better. The only thing you're achieving by telling your kids to "Just watch Sailor Moon instead" is preventing them from maybe discovering something better in the future.

As a big fan of Precure and yourself, I ask you to be more open minded :)

The GB crew talking Transformers wasn't something I thought I needed this morning, but I'm happy to have it. Also, the whole Jetfire/Skyfire thing was a licensing issue. The toy was based on the Macross Valkyrie, which was owned by Bandai, which meant that Takara couldn't sell it when they brought the toyline to Japan. Even renaming the character and changing his appearance on the cartoon wasn't enough.

Regarding the (mis)use of the term "anime" these days, my favorite example is Castlevania: Written by a British guy, animated by an American studio, and starring a multinational cast of actors. I'm halfway tempted to start busting out "Japanimation" again like back in the day to talk about anime actually from, you know, Japan.

I've started using NDI Tools Scan Converter app to turn my screens into NDI inputs over my local network. It's so convenient that I got an NDI encoder box to run my consoles through (only downside is having to upgrade to a newer 4K60 NDI encoder when I upgraded the monitor I play games on)

Also started using the Virtual Input app in the suite to turn all my NDI inputs into video inputs on Discord and Google Meet to share gameplay with friends for co-comm stuff.

Yeah, that whole AEG billion dollar fight between corporations using their fans as their footsoldiers is pretty goddamn cyberpunk dystopia.

I was very much just goofing and making a joke.

I've never actually said that to my kids and they enjoy what they enjoy.

But now I know more about Glitter Force than I ever thought I would and also a little something about my goofing on a podcast and how it can be received (or not be received) so consider my mind even open-er.

To quote Kyle Katarn himself: "I'm no Jedi; I'm just a guy with a lightsaber and a few questions." I was disappointed that there were no references to Kyle in Rogue One. But I suppose it's for the best, because he potentially would've been killed off. At least there's a small chance he could be reintroduced into the new canon.

Apparently I get your jokes until they're about a magical girl show that I like.

Sorry for the misunderstanding :)

That was a good hotspot. Also could quite happily listen to discussions on 80's cartoon, toys, action force (G.I Joe) and transformers for hours.

Now I want to dig out my OMF2097 CD and see if I can make it run. For the inevitable Ranking of Fighters remember the cheatcode HYPER (hold all five keys at once in the main menu) to enable things like mid-air fireballs and stuff.

Hearing Vinny talk about the site's webstack is music to my ears. I'd really love to have this project and have the "client" appreciate the complexity of it

Hey @jeff not sure if anyone mentioned this to you already but Gary Whitta asked Phil Spencer about the Halo delay on his Animal talking interview and he goes over some of the info you were wondering about. https://youtu.be/1-DdCjlH99U?t=721
