Unfinished: Black Mesa 05/19/2015

Yeah. I know he's played through the first one so I was immediately put off as 'oh wow, does he really not remember'. Rather than, oh that silly Dan. I just didn't feel the funny.

I got the joke, I just don't think it's funny. Honestly, I think this just wiped away any editorial credibility I had for Dan. How can I weigh his opinion against my purchasing of a game if it could be some grand old joke so he can get a few laughs in?

I'm sure he's chuckling at all the people who know what Half-Life is, but at this point we're 17 years removed from the original release. There will be people who exclusively follow Giant Bomb that have no experience with the series and thinks this is a crappy 90's-style shooter thanks to this video.

I think I would have enjoyed this more if it had been done in a Danny O'Dwyer Half Marathon way...

I don't get why they're pretending they don't know what it is? It's not sarcastic enough to be nod, nod wink, wink humor. If they let it finish after a few mins i would understand.

@drewbert You play as a guard during the events of Half Life in the expansion "Blue Shift" and one of the militants in "Opposing Force."

Dan needs to whack more butts with the crowbar. Also, pretty disappointed that there was no corpse lying on the grow for the lasers to accidentally cut.

Uhhhh yeah they can? It doesn't matter if something is a remake, it should still stand on its own that works even if you're not familiar with the original.

It's that day of the week where Giant Bomb commenters take things way too seriously and can't take the joke. Yep, it's [*]day!

Well, err, I admire that they committed themselves to the joke...but I very much would have preferred it if they acknowledged the original and tried to talk a bit about how it compares (and how it compares to the free version).

Really impressed they kept that joke going for the whole video without slipping up

It is weird though. I mean when this is your job and you are completely unaware that you are playing a Half-Life remake, kinda makes you wonder if all Dan does in the office is eat nacho cheese and talk nonsense all day.

What the hell? Is this like a weird, late April Fool's video? Guys, know when to end a bit. The appropriate time isn't "When the video ends." That was just... bad. I don't think I've ever said that about any video on this site, but my God. You provided virtually no information for this for anyone who wasn't in on the "joke."

Furthermore, Vsync is an option you enable to fix screen tearing, you literally just had to go into the options and click a checkbox, but it sounds like no one there knows what vsync is? Argh! Was that part of the "joke" too? Now I know what it feels like for all those people who are always angry at videos. This was just of such low quality. Way below the Dan/Drew standard.

This seems like a good game. If anyone wasn't aware, Dan did a "Super Replay" over at Game Informer of the original Half-Life. I remember it being really funny.

This looks kind of bad. But so do the original Half-Life 1&2 now. Which leads me to think that Valve probably missed the boat on a third one. It's either going to be a completely different game that might as well be not related in any way or a Duke Nukem Forever type of throwback that doesn't work anymore.

Should I add a comment about people not getting the joke here? Seems like it's mandatory to show wether you're in on it or not in the comments section. You're all terrible either way.

Was the joke that this game was finished in 1998. I imagine Jeff suggesting them doing this joke right before they started recording, but he is in L.A.
