@jeff Try unticking Xbox controller support from General controller settings. It seems to be for games which don't have native Xbox controller support and will boot the Big Picture interface. Having the box unticked still means that games which have built-in Xbox pad support will work, but it keeps the standard interface.

I can see what this game is going for, but it's weird to see old-timey tall ships moving around at "whoop-whoop-whoop" Benny-Hill speeds, and the cannonball fire looks like the ships are just projectile-vomiting their attacks.

Did someone mention Steven Segal?

I was looking forward to seeing this game until I saw how quick and maneuverable the ships are. It completely destroys naval-style tactics, which involve much more speed control and precise attack arcs as ships have a lot of momentum and low turning ability. It's something that I appreciate about Sea of Thieves is that you really have to think about your attack runs to make them effective.

This looks 'fun' like playing sea battles in a bathtub, but seems so mindless I'd get bored.

@yellownumber5: Well then "Naval Action" is for you then, you can have your slow battles lasting hours, but that just wouldn't work here.

All the naval tactics are present, they're just smaller in scale, it's also the opposite of mindless. There's quite a lot of factors to consider, and in short time.

There is a checkbox to not show big picture mode in Steam, though. Either untick the box below or disable the Xbox controller support from the controller settings.

I really like the aesthetic of this game, particularly the environment/towns. Makes me want a Sid Meier's style pirate game with the ability to get into those towns.

I agree with Jeff fuck chat boxes first thing I do in every game is see if I can disable chat. Especially in this battle Bay clone.

@majik: Ya, I think they changed that setting in a recent Steam update to be ticked off by default. Why? God only knows. But unticking that box did the trick for me. I'm finally living a Big Picture free life again, and all is well in the world.
