There is something undeniably special about this game. I grew up in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan which is oddly similar to Finland: ice, snow, coniferous forests, drinking copious amounts of beer, mosquitoes and a surprising amount of Finnish speaking people (SISU!) and this is very much like my summers there.

I hope they revisit this game, that could be magical.

Man, I've got to make some time to play this game, I remember the first round of press it got earlier in the year (?), and it seems like it's coming along great. I fucking love how it is a real actual simulator of the finnish countryside, circa 1991. And when I say a simulator, I really mean it, it feels like I've been to that house, everything is just pitch perfect from the weird telephone table/chair combination to the astroturf in the closet (no, I don't get why either, but it really is a thing) to the dark wood panelling on the ceiling. Also the music, magazines, the fucking mosquito, beer case, cursing, belching... Oh man.

I also love that I can intuit from the phone message (mostly from the man saying in finnish that he wants a tractor trailer full of firewood) that I would need to take the tractor, attach the trailer and find the firewood that's propably in one of the sheds or somewhere in the middle of the forest, and propably at some point empty some cesspools with the truck. And I also love that the all the finnish in the game is just baaad inside jokes that even if translated would be incomprehensible to 99,5% of the potential buyers.

That's just the rally-english translation, vittu is one of worst and most common curse words in finnish, and would normally be translated to fuck, they even originate from the same base word. But I actually prefer it this way, it just feels more authentic.

The constant mosquito is accurate from my time in Finnish countryside.

Now that felt like a classic Quick Look. Amazing.

I'm wondering if Drew needs to do something extra, like click on the door lock to keep it form swinging open.

Speaking of Commodore racing games, this reminds me of Street Rod for the Amiga.

Well this game is fantastic.

Man, I'm so happy that this game exists. As a kid growing up in rural Finland during the 90s I can attest to the authenticity of everything I've seen in this game.

I love that it doesn't shy away from the shittiness and boredom that comes with living in the middle of nowhere, but instead fully embraces it in a charming way. The attention to detail is pretty great too.

Unless videos like this are the pinnacle of a designer's aspirations, I think the lesson here is to finish one part of your game at a time rather than making everything at once and making everything shit.

I'd love to see more of Drew/Vinny/Jeff playing this game, maybe they could actually build the car, that'd be fun to see.

@zeik: Do you really think everyone who disagrees with you is arguing that their opinion is objective? Or do you think everyone who ever says anything is bad or shitty is claiming objective facts? That's actually inane. When Jeff Gerstmann was building a computer on UPF he called people who put case badges on their computer shitty. Was your reaction to tell him that it's subjective, or did you think he probably already knows that?

Holy shit, I love that there's a functioning drag strip. This game and accompanying Quick Look are reeeeaaally something special.

@larmer: It actually has nothing to do with your opinion on the matter or whether I think what you say is objectively true. I couldn't care less what you find funny or not funny, and you should do the same. Openly trying to call out people for laughing and having a good time is quite possibly one of the most obnoxious personality traits in the world.

I wouldn't say a word if you simply said you didn't enjoy the QL, but making it a point to question everyone's enjoyment and proclaim how unfunny it actually is compared to this other thing you think was better is just the worst.

In a game where there is a DEDICATED middle finger/curse button, I was REALLY bothered by the fact that nobody thought to give that dirtbag in the car what for.

This game is the Soviet Monsters: Ekranoplans of Jalopys. Or something like that.

EDIT: Holy Balls. This game does try so hard to be an anti-game that it turns back around to become something entirely fun again. This is amongst the best Quick Looks I've seen.

When Jeff made the "We've got a ___" blues brothers reference, I pulled my headphones off, stood up, and slow clapped.
