Unprofessional Fridays: UPF - 06/03/22

Save Room looks so satisfying. Loved the “aha!” moments of figuring out that you can combine items or use them.

Save Room is a nice bite-sized game. Would recommend as it's just a couple bucks with a nice gentle difficulty slope. I played through it back in the 1st week of May, all 40 puzzles. Basically sat down, played through 10 levels and turned it off till tomorrow to play another 10 levels. It took me about 2 hours.

EDIT: And yes, I was mentally backseat puzzle driving the entire time. Only thing I'll say is "Ganbare, Jess!".

Souldiers looked pretty awesome, so I went ahead and got it myself. Thanks for showing it off @unastrike!

EDIT: After spending a few hours with it, I feel it's a lot worse to play than to watch. If you're not completely sick of the Dark Souls gameplay design mentality after Elden Ring, you'll probably really like it. Me, I've had my fill and would rather not have my Metroidvanias be filled with recovery frames on dodge and stilted movement and jumps you need to press the button for 8-12 frames in advance.

Also the first boss is awfully difficult for being encountered 2 hours in, and to compound the bad experience, loading checkpoints after you die is atrociously slow. Not a great feeling no matter how you feel about the game mechanically.

How many jobs has Jan had... why are they all so wild and filled with horror stories... lol. Someone explain this cold slippery open to me, please.

Save Room is a great idea for a puzzle game. Anyone who didn't like the inventory management in RE4 don't know what's good in life!

The bullshit thing about the RE4 inventory was if it was full, and you had an empty weapon, found ammo for it, you couldnt just PUT THE AMMO IN THE WEAPON. Its right there in your hand. Nope, you have to put something in your inventory before you can use it.

I kind of love it when the team just spontaneously jumps between games (and other media, like trashy Mcdonalds ads) rather than sticking to a strict segmented format for UPF, makes the show feel whole lot more dynamic and energetic; probably not as enjoyable for Jan to hop between scenes and manage audio, though he did a great job as per usual.

I watched Stranger things not knowing there was a part 2 coming, and fucking hated it. Also Netflix is an asshole for making the seasons a month a part so people have to sub for 2 separate months just to see it (may and july). I hate to see what happens to their sub counts after ST is done lol

@jerf I saw that same interview with Jason Alexander, and as a bald man myself, I got so excited at first. I was like "did it finally happen?! Did they find a cure?! Can I go back to my life as a happier less self-conscious man?!" But no, it was just a toupee.

The "start UPF by telling the end of a story" bit is getting kinda old. If you're gonna tell a story, just tell it.

RE those Stranger Thangs : I wasnt that much into s2 and s3, just kinda watched it fairly mindlessly. This season though is actually doing it for me. Eps range from 90 mins - 75 mins, and it suits the show i think. They can tell a better paced story , weirdly enough. And while Finn Wolfhard looks like a 32 yr old accountant , I dont think the age acceleration is too jarring. Apart from a few of the other highschool kids who are clearly in their late twenties.

@splodge: While the break between seasons 3 and 4 was super long I'm glad it gave them time to actually figure out a story. Season 1 was great but they clearly used all their best thought-out ideas during it. I mean, its been like 5 years since and they still have no idea what to do with Will as a character. Even Mike and Jonathan have spent a considerable amount of time totally adrift outside of being attached to better written female characters.
