It's either that or 500,000 so be sure to try both.

The password/limited continues system is probably the game's biggest downfall for this feature. It's also why I never beat the game when I rented it. I remember making it either to Versailles or the next level and quitting because I never could get further. From what I understand, this was another inflated difficulty thing that wasn't in the Japanese version.

I should give it another shot, though.

Hey Austin, I know CV64 sucks, a lot. But I fucking LOVE that game. I adore it. It's fucking hard as hell, obtuse, doesn't even control great, but there's just something about it that I cannot resist.

as someone that is also 6'8" i can tell you a ride in coach on a plane is the absolutely worst. Me an my wife went on our honeymoon to Hawaii, on the flight over we had economy plus that has an extra 7 inches of leg room. but on the way home we could only get standard coach...never again.

A woman in front of me laid her seat all the way back and dislocated my already bad knee because she did it so quickly and without warning, i kindly ask her to lift up her seat just half way at least so i can get my knee out and she proceeded to ignore me. so i was trapped and since we were in middle seats i did the honorable thing and refused to put my seat back and stayed up for 8 hours with no mobility. Eventually putting my DS over top of the woman's face as she tried to sleep, which somehow did not disturb her in the slightest...so give your father and the horrible Dave Lang a fist bump from me.

Wasn't it possible to set the lifecount to a higher number? That might even affect the number of lives you got for each continue? They would have to restart probably but...hey, it'd be in the spirit of.

Don't worry, they won't shit on SOTN because it's a much fairer video game that isn't hard for the sake of being hard. SOTN is even brute-forceable as long as you remember to save.

@phoenix87: I think they would be a little nicer to it if it weren't for the continue thing. It's pretty stupid. Obviously there are shitty sections in all Castlevania games, but I think Vinny's just getting frustrated at having to repeat shitty sections. I think it's funny, and they're mining it for entertainment. That said, the boss design *is* pretty bad, in a hilarious way, and the length of the levels and level design in general is pretttyyy questionable.

What I'm wondering is how annoyed will they get with dying in Symphony? Because you don't have the continue system with Symphony; it's all based on save points, so if they forget they can get fucked. But also, Symphony has this weird design decision of kicking you out to the main menu every time you die, with a long ass game over screen. That adds a level of tedium that isn't quite at "putting in the password" levels, but it's getting there.

I really wish they had played this game before Rondo... I think their opinions are being colored by that game and how long it's been since they played the NES games. Bloodlines isn't the BEST Castlevania game but it's better than the NES ones. (and yes, I know that is an unpopular opinion because Nostalgia)

I think this is a pretty good Castlevania game overall, and definitely better than the massively overrated Super Castlevania IV, but yeah that Leaning Tower stage is awful, like top five worst stages in the series awful.

@vinny If you're really waffling over the possibility of using a password from the internet you should remember that you used a walkthrough for Simon's Quest. Just treat the series as though you were playing the game on your own time on the original hardware.

So I tested the "sitting under the pollen" point theory for gaining extra lives. I have a four and a half hour recording of Eric Lecarde sitting under the pollen slowing gaining points. At the end of four and a half hours Mr. Lecarde had 168,570 points. And he gained absolutely zero extra lives. I'll be happy to upload that video for science if anyone is interested.

"I wish you could diagonal whip."

That's what you get when you go with the "canon" choice of character, Vinny. (The weaker character.)

Also this game isn't the best Castlevania, but I prefer it over Super Castlevania IV at least.

I dunno about everyone else, but I don't think anyone would judge the vinnyvania team if they just loaded up a save with all the normal continues and lives and just blitzed past the rest of the game. It isn't as bad as they think it is, but it still ain't great, and with how little else they have to go through I think it'd be for the best.

Has anyone been able to pinpoint the exact time when Vinny became so traumatized by Medusa heads that he refuses to whip them, even if doing so is so much easier than trying (and often failing) to dodge them?

The fact they didn't go look at the gamefaqs none of which mention a score extra life but believed the chat I don't understand. How they can stay as empathetic and nice as they do when the chat always messes with them just to mess with them I don't understand. Such things would make me angry...which is why I guess I am not in their field....

It's funny that they happened to mention GameWinners.com, because I'm the one who submitted the best passwords for Bloodlines to that site. I did it back when I was in high school. There's a set of codes that gives you nine lives and two continues for any level. I earned each of these passwords legitimately and on every single difficulty after inputting the nine lives code and playing from the beginning until I finished each level without losing any lives. You can find them here:

http://www.gamewinners.com/GEN/CastlevaniaBloodlines.htm

And yeah, if it wasn't already obvious, then I have to say that I *love* Bloodlines. I loved it then, and I love it now, and I didn't even play it until after I played SotN. It's probably my third- or fourth-favorite game in the series, after SotN, PoR and maaaayyybe OoE. It's my favorite in the non-Metroidvania style, though. Great game.

Like gems like Dynamite Cop, though, I suppose that I played it at a time when the content didn't seem so ridiculous. It's funny to see your reactions to some of the stuff in Bloodlines, even if I still don't think any of it's all that crazy.

Just wait until they see Dracula and his unique ability to shoot bones, boomerangs and fire from his crotch. It's easily one of my favorite Dracula battles in the series, thanks to the awesome transformation effects (even if there's a shit-ton of slowdown).

It isn't with those of us whose Nostalgia is for the genesis rather than the Nintendo however! SONIC FOREVER!

So did they not make a metal gear joke in the vid? I mean it seems that boss is just calling out for a metal gear joke...

@vinny@alex@austin_walker Hey guys, the thing about restarting and continuing is edit: confirmed false. Even with your testing, I went and spent about 20 minutes trying it with everything I could think of (With a password, with starting from scratch, etc) with no luck. Sorry.

Also, I do really like Bloodlines, but nostalgia has made me forget some of its bullshit.

So yeah that part at the end where vinny starts to try and get the chandelier to drop on that knight but stops because he thinks that this wouldnt be that type of game?

According to http://www.vgmuseum.com/mrp/code-bl.htm this is one of a few documented times that you can use the environment to damage enemies. Apparently results in an instant kill if done correctly.

Never disbelieve anything about this game.
