Argh unbearable to watch... C'mon Dan!!! Literally running in a circle, using up chaff grenades when you can just shimmy up against the walls to avoid cameras.... LIKE IN METAL GEAR SOLID. Oy..... Oy....

@wildmatt: I just double checked in-game, you cannot shimmy up against walls to avoid cameras. You can use a box and stay still at any range, but you cannot shimmy.

I feel like we learned a lot about Dan, Metal Gear, and life.

I feel like this episode is what Dan gets for saying Punisher: War Zone is the best Marvel movie to date. I felt the way about that movie that dan felt about crawling through that duct while on the verge of his kidneys bursting with pee.

Good lord, Dan. I love you but holy moly, this was just unbearable. It's like you've never payed attention to a game. And it's crazy how little Alex and Vinny payed attention as well. Dumb mechanics and poor level design aside, it's clear you guys have lost interest in this one.

All that being said, I'm still enjoying most of this.

I'd love a super cut of "Every time they... Don't listen in Metal Gear". Haha. Mr. Jeremy Medina, I love your videos.

This game is an asshole.

Y'all paying so close attention to the guide that you aren't paying attention to the game. You managed to get lost like a dozen times in the same fairly short stretch of maps. It's a forest, don't look too closely at each individual tree.

As someone who's played this game to completion before I'm 100% with Dan that the level design in this game is largely tedium. The actual mechanics of the stealth are fantastic, but that doesn't matter when you're doing cardboard box conveyor belts and trying to track down specific randomly selected pillars to place C4 on.

Vinny making Dan mad is pretty good.

Especially considering his own "character" of Old-Dan. There is a difference in terms of quality, but I'm with Vinny on these comedians being comparable on a structural level. One way or another, it's all acting. I feel Dan's point about Andy Kaufman's commitment to the bit being a good thing undermined his whole argument against Larry the Cable Guy (who I'm not a fan of, but that's neither here nor there).

Also, I have vaguely fond memories of Ernest Scared Stupid and Ernest Goes to Jail. We don't have the old VHS's anymore though. =/

I genuinely don't understand Dan's point about comedians. Other than Larry the Cable Guy just fucking sucks. I mean, one of the best SNL vets (Ferrell) ever has an entire show where he pretends to be someone else so...I don't think that the problem is playing a character.

Also, I irrationally love Punisher War Zone but it felt like Dan himself was playing a bit of a character by saying it was the best Marvel movie.

I think his point was more on the existential side. He kinda is a Larry the cable guy of sorts and seems to be constantly fluctuate between "living the gimmick"/ "playing a character"/ and "being himself".

"Dan the Video game guy" is a complicated beast Who often makes absolute and irrational declarations about things. Sometimes for the sake of comedy, sometimes a brain fart.

American comedy and comedians is a topic that is completely lost on me.

Anyone know which book Dan was talking about?

@phished0ne: @sethmode: I think what Dan is trying to say is that the actors who play SNL characters don't try to pass themselves off as the spies or action heroes in real life while Larry the Cable Guy is successfully passing himself off as an average everyday blue collar working man who makes a living working with his hands, when he's anything but. His southern accent is pure affectation not to sell a bit or a joke but a lifestyle he wants to portray.

I'd say it's pretty close to pandering to a demographic.

Edit: It's the difference between Dana Carvey pretending to be a church lady while Joel Olsen pretending to be a man of faith.

I feel like we came tantalizingly close to a come-to-Jesus moment when Alex pointed out that the loop of stealth/detected/evasion/stealth is a core mechanic and that consequently Dan might not actually like Metal Gear (or at least likes Metal Gear in spite of itself).

@merxworx01: that's a fair and accurate point that I think Dan probably would have gotten to if he had more time or if it were a different situation. To be extra clear: I 100% agree with him, just didn't really get what he was going for in the moment

This game will break Dan.

I wasn't expecting Vinny to drop a take so inadvisably hot, that Dan and Alex would join forces against him.

MacGruber, Larry the Cable Guy and Westworld are all basically the same thing, right?

Also, I see no difference between the celery trick and prickle rick.

This may very well be the best episode of Who's The Big Boss? yet. Urine has never brought on more tension before.

I still really like this game despite some of the vent crawling/box conveying aspect of it. Those low points aren't all that low (at least to me), and the rest of the cool stuff in the game more than makes up for it. Also, the ending is really cool. I think Dan's gonna like it!

Because of this video I added all the Ernest movies/videos to my Amazon Watchlist.

Man this game starts strong with the first couple levels but then it really falls apart. A shame that such a good engine wasn't really used to its full potential.

Like, it doesn't give you much of a clue about the location of the columns, what they look like, or anything. Reminds me searching random squares in Phantasy Star 2.

The plagery "apology" video reference at the end had me dying- "Keep looking Kotaku, and tell me if you find more Metal Gears"

Dan is completely 100% correct on his Nina Meyers pick for best mole reveal on 24. A complete fucking shock that they did it and they had the balls to make Nina straight up kill Jack Bauer's wife and escaping!

Those first five seasons of 24 are brilliant.
