Why can't i change my leader? when i try to switch to someone else it always goes back to random?
Is it possible to save a private multiplayer game and continue another time?

Not sure why you're having issues changing leaders. I never ran into that in multi-player.  
 
There is no way to manually save but the multi-player games will auto save (you can adjust how often in options) and I believe default is every turn.
