    Thanks for the info.  Hopefully, Valve won't late-release as they sometimes do.

    God damn it i thought we where past this.. Why do we in the EU have to wait 3 extra fucking days just because we are in the EU. If its a distribution problem then fair enough, yet I have it preloaded on steam, no disc, no excuse for me having to wait 3 extra days.

    @mattjam3000: I bet it's b/c 2K is forced into a simultaneous retail/online release.  If the retail version released later than online, the retailers would probably see fewer sales and would retaliate against 2K in other ways.  
    Of course 2K could've just released for NA and EU on the 24th and no one would have been the wiser that NA retailers prob have the game earlier.  Combined with a required Steam activation, broken street dates wouldn't matter (since the game wouldn't unlock until Valve okay's it).

    @kwyee:  This is very true. Another view to look at this from is piracy. I am sure those few could get a hacked copy of the game on a torrent website before the game is even released in the EU, so surely they will be loseing sales in side. As people will be able to play the game for free, before its even released.

    What are the draw to Civ games? 
    I'm not a Call of Duty only guy, I like RTS and RPG... What can draw me towards Civ 5?

    I enjoy the different ways of winning the game.  It's not a RTS where you just build and then kill.  I like the idea of taking your civilization through different time periods, researching new technologies and conducting diplomacy.  Fun times.

    it's purely because the US/canada releases games on tuesday and the EU releases on friday.

    We do not really have a fixed date for the release of games in europe. Maybe in the UK, but not in Germany or Switzerland. Well, not that I have noticed.

    More weird is when a game like Fable 3, that was made in the EU, is still coming out 3 days late there. Dude, I don't know, but I feel for you. I support universal launches.

    All the time.  I can't recall any PC game that hasn't been cracked in the last few years.  I seen in another thread that the new Worms game was cracked before it was unlocked. 
     
    Anyway, sure wish I could think of a reason to work from home today.

    It is unlocking right now! Hooray. Also, the reason EU has to wait is Steam isn't allowed to deliver prior to box copies because publishers are dependent on retail stores for console sales. So if they screwed over retail on this, retail would never forgive them and they wouldn't give shelf space to their next AAA console title.

    I had hoped I could wake up early and start playing, but alas it's for 10 am. Now considering leaving the office for lunch and going home to install & play Civ.
     
    I'm thinking that could be an unwise move. That hour lunch could easily turn into 4 hours if I'm not careful. I'm completely lacking willpower.

    it's a problem with it thinking your running Vista or something, there'll probably be a patch up eventually.
