a worthy but not a groundbreadking sequel. way better than "the r

Silent hill homecoming is the latest installment up to date in silent hill series. the previous was "the room". to me "the room" was very uninspered and a lot repetitive. a total letdown.homecoming received bad reviews and i hesitated before i played it. a lot.
2 weeks before this review i decided to install it.
the very beggining of the game was very cliche a la silent hill to me. but after a 30 minute of gameplay it seemed really good and promising. by the very end i found a pretty good solid experience in both terms of story and atmosphere (thats what you wanna see in silent hill right?)

Graphics: graphics are pretty good , i run it at highest textures without any problem. a lot of people complained about some crashes. i did not experience any at all except the fact that when you alt-tab the game crushes. maybe i was lucky. the classic flashlight illuminates anything (but NOT enough, that is not a problem , in fact it is more realistic) leaving creeping shadows on the walls. the mosters are way more scarier that these silly monsters of silent hill 2 and 3(yes they were silly, manequin? oh come on i laugh eveytime i see it). they ll give a nice scare. the towns of silent hill and shepherds glen are nice deisgned but don expect too much walking on the streets like 2 and 3. you basically walk in order to get to the next objetive. (yes there are simple objectives). the bosses are very imaginative a la silent hill.
    4/5

Sound: what can i say here. this is a silent hill so expect an AWESOME soundtack (listen it to youtube cause in the game you don t hear it in its entity). the sounds are very good BUT there is a BUG where the conversation ALWAYS co,es out from ONE speaker.it is a bug but its not annoying. just turn up the volume! the shooting effects are good enough. the music is creepy and you will often hear monster sounds so convincing that you ll ready your weapont only to find out that these sounds belong in the soundtrackXD
    4.5/5

Story: the story is a classic silent hill one. i ll not give away anything , just be prepared to see a not confusing story such as silent hill 2.there are some very emotional moments. there is also pyramid head in this game.. there are 5 endings and you can achieve them by your actions at certain points of the game. you see there are certain momnents in conversation where you choose what you ll do or gonna say. some of them (you ll just know which, will affect the ending). the endings are short but make sence and one particular is very apocalyptic and awesome imo. other gamers hated it but i think its the best ending of homecoming.
    3.5/5

Gameplay: this is a classic slient hill as i ve already mentioned. gameplay is basically the same which is a bad and a good thing. this is bad cause you think you played this game before. resident evil series made an amazing gameplay turn but hilent hill remained the same. you walk examining obljects and killing monsters.however while the gameplay is the same the movement is not. you can move around using the mouse. you also have a DOGDE button. be sure to learn how to use it cause this game is HARD. i lost countless times cause i was runjning away (in homecoming you cannot just run away and this is a good thing, this is a survivar horror right? where are the scares if you can just run away??)every enemy has 2 or 3 different attacks , memorize and learn to recognise them so you can dodge the right moment, its not hard it just needs some time so HAVE some patience. same as bosses. ammo is very scarce and you will use your diffent melle waepons . you can combo with them but hte best weapon is the knife, the comes the mighty pipe, the axe sucks !(it rhymes!). one advise :ammo may be VERY scarce but some enemies need to be shot cause they ll kick your arse if try to mellee them. there are also some interactive momebts where you have to mash a button or else you ll just die! these moments are intense cause you have to mush fast! there are also some very nice logic puzzles.the puzzles do not reset which maybe a problem.
save spots are scarce and in places where you dont expect them to be.in example there is not a single save point after every boss. you ll just play 5 more minutes before you can save, if you lose... i don wanna think about it!
overall the gameplay except the combat mechanics is the same. double helix did a good job in my opinion. i d love to see them in aother gamebut i think that that gameplay should get revolutionalised. this is the 6silent hill game with the same gameplay.
    3,5/5

A somewhat buggy but fun entry in the Silent hill series 0

Much of the Silent Hill series had an ability to really creep the player (or anyone watching) out, and send delightful feelings of dread to one’s mind. Feelings that make you honestly afraid to explore farther then what you thought was necessary to get past an area. This entry has successfully done the same. I have played all of the Silent Hill games except the PSP title, Origins, and the only one among those that I haven’t beaten was Silent Hill 4: The Room. And I watched half of the movie befo...

      Silent Hill: Homecoming Review 0

The survival/horror genre has came a long way since Edward Carnaby made his first steps in Alone in the Dark. Nowadays Japanese developers are dominating in this genre, Capcom with their zombie-shooter Resident Evil and Konami with Silent Hill series. It was a big surprise when two years ago Konami announced that a American developer is going to work on next game and not their own Team Silent. Double Helix has been given an opportunity to show what they can. Never heard of Double Helix? They ...
