    It was originally established as a joint venture between Sanritsu and Sega. Upon its founding, about 50 employees transferred over from Sanritsu, the predecessor of SIMS active from 1984 to 1991.

    SIMS was a first-party developer for Sega from 1991 up until 2004, when it became an independent third-party developer.
