Overview

The game will not only introduce new mechanics such as jumping, but a variety of new Skylanders including Light Core variants. The game will also require a new portal to function due to hardware changes in the new "SWAP Force" line of Skylanders toys.

Gameplay

Swap Mechanic

The game will feature 16 SWAP force characters. The first trailer revealed some of the characters that can be swapped. Ex. Wash Buckler, and Blast Zone. Wash buckler a Squid Pirate, and Blast Zone a robot with blast abilities can be interchanged combining the names and abilities of the parts swapped. Blast Buckler is a bomb throwing robot, with a squid like bottom half. In total 16 characters can be swapped out for a possible 256 character combinations.

As revealed at the Skylanders SWAP Force event in Times Square, the game will feature action zones. Similar to the elemental locked areas in the previous games. The bottom half of the characters will be marked with a symbol, showing which halves have access to these areas.

A new portal is required to read the new SWAP Force Mechanic. As with previous games in the series all previous Skylanders are backwards compatible, retaining skills and levels.

Kaos (with a K) makes his return as the games antagonist.

New Skylanders

The official site has revealed the new characters that will be available. This includes

  • 16 SWAP Force Skylanders characters
  • 16 new Skylanders characters
  • 8 LightCore Skylanders characters
  • 16 returning Skylanders characters with all new in-game powers and abilities
