    "Invaders! Possibly from Space!" 1

Anybody who has the tiniest inkling of video game knowledge more than likely is aware of Space Invaders. It predates even Mario, back when a time when games were simpler. Well that was then and this is now, and people tend to demand a little more bang for their buck out of video games. The Invaders are back for the second time on DS, and to say Taito has kicked things up to a whole new level would be an understatement. Off the bat, you should be familiar with your goal in Space Invaders Extreme...

    REVIEW - Space Invaders 0

Remember Space Invaders? It was great wasn’t it? Shooting white-coloured aliens as they come closer and closer at accelerating speeds. Over and over. It was great, wasn’t it? Yeah, 30 years ago. But the year is 2008, people, and we deserve a new transformation of Space Invaders. One that will bring in young gamers but will trigger the nostolgia of old gamers. The new one is part of the 30th Anniversary for Space Invaders, and is a perfect addition to the aging series. Think of this game as the ‘...

    Space Invading...to the...Extreme? 1

Believe it or not, it’s been 30 years this year since the creation of Space Invaders. One of the cornerstones of gaming, Space Invaders is often one of the first games to come to mind when the term “old school gaming” is mentioned. And like most retro games from that time period, Space Invaders is now entertaining for a total of five minutes. Quite often, I wonder how mentally challenged people of the 70’s were, when they tell stories of being entranced by games like Space Invaders or Pac-Man. B...

The Invasion Is Somewhat Extreme 0

Space Invaders Extreme takes the classic arcade game and gives new shinny graphics, smooth animations, boss fights and some cool new weapon upgrades. If you played the original game you will recognize your enemies instantly (even the flying saucers are back). Although they are similar looking, the aliens now come in many colors and shooting four of the same one in a roll you give you a power-up that corresponds to their color. You will also notice the absence of the defense bunkers, but you will ...

Space Invaders Extreme's extremely late review! 0

Space Invaders Extreme certainly plays like an extreme version of the 1978 classic shooter. To enjoy this game however, you have to enjoy old school shooters, be slightly masochistic  (though I suppose those go hand in hand), and you also have to have a high tolerance for trippy colors and flashy effects.     At first glance, this game might just seem like a highly stylized version of Space Invaders. You’re still on the bottom of the screen, they’re still on the top, and coming downward to ruin ...

An Extreme Invasion. From Space! 0

I feel it's important to note straight off the bat that this is a budget priced game, and as such I have to credit that to the game and keep it in consideration. It's a simple game for a cheap price, but that doesn't mean that it has budget game play. But does this game stick out in the densely populated crowd of classic remakes that float atop the market like a thick scum?Space Invaders Extreme had to have begun with a thorough inspection and breakdown on the original game, you can tell that th...

Dazed. Confused. But hyped and still playing 0

I love the voice. When you load this up, the words "Taito Corporation" ring out in crystal tones. It's freaky, because in my head I could imagine walking into the Taito HQ and have that played at me as I walk through the door. One day, all future buildings will have this. But the voice is there for a reason. No sooner have you adjusted to the silence (and the irritating company logos have gone by) than the techno soundtrack kicks in. Extreme is a great audio game, similar to Lumines, although t...

Excellent revamp of an all-time classic 0

It’s Space Invaders, but extreeeeeeeeme! Available for 800 MSP on Xbox LIVE Arcade, Space Invaders Extreme is a revamp of the classic shooter, combining psychedelic visualizer backgrounds (by none other than Mr Tempest himself, Jeff Minter) and a pumping electro-synth-style soundtrack.   It’s a simple game: move your spacecraft at the bottom of the screen with the analogue stick and shoot the waves of incoming alien ships by hammering the ‘A’ button repeatedly. It’s hardly ‘One Bold Step’ for g...

8-bit meets HD in a remade classic 0

Space Invaders Extreme was originally released on the PSP and DS in 2008 to mark the 30th anniversary of the arcade classic and it quickly found its niche as a superb pick-up-and-play action title for the portable systems. Taito has breathed new life into the game this year by hiring emulation specialists Backbone Entertainment to give it a fresh coat of HD paint for Xbox Live Arcade. "A familiar look and sound" The look of the game closely resembles other high intensity games on XBLA, such as R...

    Invaded My Time. 0

Space Invaders Extreme Is just plain Fun. Not many XBLA games manage to get to this level in terms of layout and visuals. Only 800 in the market where most are 1200 to even 1600. Old school and new school. Everyone whos playing any amount of games knows the name. The online is kind of funky sometimes, But just playing by yourself is rewarding. If you love shooters, you'll love this. ...
