    Overview

Spate is a platformer developed by Eric Provan and Temo Kokiashvili (under the company name of Ayyo Games) after being funded by 747 backers on Kickstarter. The game was developed on the Unity3D game engine.

    Development

Spate was being developed prior to the Kickstarter campaign being launched. Developer Eric Provan was for the most part working on the project solo with Temo Kokiashvili working on more complex programming issues. After some point Provan took the project as far as he could without funding and launched the Kickstarter campaign in April 2012 in order to hire people who could make the project look more professional.

On 27th May 2012, Spate successfully surpassed it's target goal of $12,000 when a combined total of 747 backers raised $14,430. The game would develop gradually for the next few months until December when it was announced that Spate would be entering IGN's The Next Game Boss Season 2.

On 26th February 2013, the first gameplay demo of Spate was released to coincide with Spate passing the first round of The Next Game Boss. Two days later, the game was added to Steam Greenlight.

Spate would win The Next Game Boss on 15th March 2013. This granted Provan a further $10,000 to invest into the game.

After several more months of development the first Beta version of the game was released to Kickstarter backers on 25th October 2013. The would be followed by:

    • Version 1.1 (31st October 2013)
    • Version 1.2 (1st November 2013)
    • Version 1.3 (13th November 2013)
    • Version 1.4 (24th November 2013)
    • Version 2.0 (3rd January 2014)
    • Version 2.1 (16th January 2014)
    • Open Beta (13th February 2014)
    • Open Beta v2 (16th February 2014)
    • Open Beta v3 (19th February 2014)

On January 8th 2014, the game was Greenlit on Steam thus verifying it for release on Valve's game store.

The final product was released early to Kickstarter backers on 24th February 2014. It's first patch followed three days later. Steam keys were released to backers on the 26th March 2014 and finally launched to the public a day later.

    Story

Detective Bluth is a broken man. His daughter is dead, his wife has left him and he has fallen to an addiction to absinthe.

The events of Spate pick up while he is investigating the disappearance of a wealthy business man. His case has led him to the forbidden X-Zone. Once upon a time this was a location known as the Pearl Islands and a beautiful location that attracted tourists. But then a mysterious fog swept over the Islands and brought with them an never ending rain. Every living person on the island disappeared on that day.

It is soon apparent that all is not right with this investigation as Bluth continuously is warned of "the man in the tower".
