In most episodes of Spongebob Squarepants, Squidward is annoyed by whatever Spongebob is doing. No matter how mean he is to Spongebob, Spongebob doesn't seem to get the clue that Squidward dislikes him. In fact, Spongebob considers Squidward to be one of his best friends.
Squidward hates his job with Mr. Krabs and Spongebob at the Krusty Krab, and is always complaining about his work conditions. In one episode, he quit working at the Krusty Krab and began to protest in the form of a workers' strike. This ended up not faring too well for him or his cause.
Squidward considers himself to be a professional musician, however, anytime people hear his clarinet playing, they find it to be aurally offensive, with one character comparing the sound to a dying animal.
