Super excited to find out what happens with Kerrigan, Raynor and the others. I suck at the multiplayer anyway.

The first chapter in the StarCraft II trilogy focuses on the struggles of the Terran race, as seen through the eyes of Commander Jim Raynor, leader of the rebel group Raynor's Raiders.
Who else is buying this mostly for the campaign?
" Super excited to find out what happens with Kerrigan, Raynor and the others. I suck at the multiplayer anyway. "There's always user map settings games. You'll get your money's worth even if you buy the collectors edition.
I'll like multiplayer, but a large part of the production is in the single-player campaign I believe. I myself bought this game mainly for the campaign, but will play multiplayer often. Also, I will be interested to see if they can make a compelling story more dramatic and impactful using an RTS framework. It was ok in SC1, but hardly anyone will say there were memorable in-game mission moments. The cinematics were relevant to the story, but I am strictly referring to in-game moments, not CGI cutscenes.
I am, will check out the multiplayer but honestly the idea of just playing and getting my backside handed to me doesn't sound like fun.
Having said that, I will probably will play against/with friends online.
It's going to be the first thing I dive into...and then bot matches :P
I lost almost every multiplayer match in the beta so...
" I am. I'm afraid to go into the multiplayer, because I've never been any good at it with RTS-games. And I'm guessing Starcraft players are brutal. "@sodiumCyclops: I also find the multiplayer very intimidating. SC players are like the elite of multiplayer gamers.
Although I don't see how a pro player would get anything out of destroying a non-pro player, it happens in every MP game ever made. I guess we'll have to wait and see if Blizzard manages to pull off some magical match-making system that would allow lesser players to compete against each other.
I'm an RTS n00b, but even I'm just getting it for multiplayer (or playing vs bots). Playing vs randoms seems intimidating, but I can handle playing co-op against the AI with my friends.
I might try the single player and hopefully it'll pull me in, but I didn't enjoy single player in the first StarCraft so I don't expect this would be any different.
" @KaosAngel: Helping out with what? Kicking my ass? No thanks. :P Although I don't see how a pro player would get anything out of destroying a non-pro player, it happens in every MP game ever made. I guess we'll have to wait and see if Blizzard manages to pull off some magical match-making system that would allow lesser players to compete against each other. "1-account per purchase cuts down on the smurfing by a lot. I don't think anyone is going to spend another $60 bucks to steamroll through beginners for 10 games.
To contribute to this thread:
Let's say the matchmaking was terrible (it's not but a lot of people will not have fun anyway), there are still co-op AI stomps and custom games alongside the campaign.
Mostly for the campaign I guess. It seems as though Blizzard really committed to a good long sp campaign by splitting the three up. But I do hope to enjoy some mp as I learn how to play. Co-op against AI might be best or custom stuff...whatever that will be lol. Maybe some 2x2 or 3x3 will be a little less intimidating?
" Same here, I may play the multiplayer a little from time to time but ever since Age of Mythology, I haven't played an RTS where I invested enough time to actually get good at it and enjoy it multiplayer wise. "AOM is such an awesome game. I still play it eveyr once in awhile, but last time I was online, only 500 people were playing :(
@pweidman: Yeah 2vs2, 3vs3, and 4vs4 is definitely less daunting, but I recommend 1vs1 for the best experience (from playing the beta anyway).
Of course, I will indulge into the campaign rather than going multiplayer. I also need to sharpen my skills at that game.. been quite a while since I played
i bought the game for it's campaign, the collector's Edition box is actually on my desk right now ;-)
Can't wait to play it!!!! 4 hours to wait.
" Oh yeah I'm buying it 'cause I desperately need to find out what the hell is going to happen. Being good at multiplayer is just a bonus. Also, I swear to God that Wings of Liberty will end with the biggest god damn cliffhanger gaming has ever known. "Yeah, I have a feeling that I am going to see the end of the campaign, fly off the handle and burn the box, game and manual and give Blizzard the finger. I mean I don't mind companies leaving a bit of an opening at the end, but really, the next starcraft expansion/part is going to be years off. It is not like the expansion is 3-6 months off, it is easily going to be a year plus.
Mostly the campaign for me as well. I got really into playing SC and Brood War in LAN settings back in the day with friends - we had loaded an entire computer lab with the game and would play and debate strategies endlessly - but battling up ranked ladders on the Internet in general just doesn't hold the same appeal for me.
Though that could be because I don't have nearly enough time to devote to being good, unless I want to sacrifice the ability to play any other games for months and months.
