    Overview

Stonkers is a strategy game published by Imagine Software for the ZX Spectrum platform.

It's considered an early example of the real time strategy genre due to the way the player can select and order units around the battlefield in real time. Like in Dune II and the Herzog games, only a single unit can be selected at a time, and unlike Dune II there's no base building or resource gathering. The player has to make due with a small selection of units assigned at the start of the mission, with occasional reinforcements appearing on a timer. The specific era and location of the game is never specifically mentioned, but the world map resembles northern Europe and the units resemble cold war era tanks and trucks. All missions take place near bridges along a river which the player has to defend.
