As October 13th draws closer, we are finally seeing the final release version of Summer Lesson and can check out the actual gameplay part of it.
You, as a teacher, has to help Hikari Miyamoto with her studies. Like Persona 4, which most Giant Bomb users is familiar with, you have a set number of actions you can perform each day to increase her stats and help her study up for the exam. At the end of each day you can check her stats and progress at a café... It's pretty simple and straight-forward as far as these games goes.
The original idea for the Summer Lesson tech demo was that it would simply be a tool for Namco to get familiar with VR and evolve character interaction, and Hikari will act differently depending on where you look, so if you for instance try to read what she is writing on her phone, she will cover it up etc.
While other PS4 games have been doing the whole "Using the controller speaker as a phone" thing, it actually makes sense in Summer Lesson as the controller will sometimes be rendered in the world as a phone.
There's currently still no localization plans for Summer Lesson, but it's still a fascinating approach to VR that is different from horror, action, porn or Rec Room. It's a different take on a classic genre.
