    Um, what? You only get to keep a bandage if you finish the level after collecting it, after which it's not in the level anymore.

    Are you perhaps referring to the bug that causes the bandage progress to not save?  If you get the bandage in a stage and then replay it and the bandage is still there then the game isn't saving your progress anymore and has glitched.  I remember getting a few of the more difficult ones only to boot the game up later and realize the hadn't saved any of my bandages for the last 3 worlds.
