He shoots downwards, but does that do anything? It doesn't seem to effect his fall at all.

Slows his descent like the description says. Are you sure you're using it right?

He also gets a little jump boast as well I noticed.  It can be handy in spots.

Well it has a really low rate of fire, so it can't slow his decent that much.

It's pretty weird, you can use it in lava etc to stay alive, looks really buggy. I guess that you need that to get certain bandages.

If you start firing his blaster immediately after a wall jump ( or conveyor belt, or fan ) he jumps way higher. It's useful for a few speed runs. 

Try playing the darkworld 2-4 with alien hominid. I think u can only do this level with him actually.

The first shot slows his descent. Following shots don't seem to have much (if any) effect at all. The Alien Hominid is my least favorite character. He's rather big and jumps odd. It's really hard to control him and some parts seem utterly impossible with him.
