Evil Ryu, Combos, Tools, and Tips

Posted by TechHits (1367 posts) -

This is a post for anyone interested in seeing more about Evil Ryu. It will include combo videos, tip videos and high level matches. If anyone finds any good high level Evil Ryu matches drop a link below and let me know. however I am not going to allow this to balloon out of control I don't want this to be a post of just a whole bunch of videos, so I'm only gonna put the best one's in the post.

for those of you interested in Oni see the link here

this blog was intended as a place to keep quality footage of Evil Ryu in one easy place. It's convenient that I don't need to navigate multiple youtube pages, stream links, or fighting game forums. It is not intended as a guide, it's more of a showcase, or reference. I realized other people might benefit and/or be interested in seeing these videos, as finding quality combo videos and matches is hard unless you visit fighting game sites with any sort of regularity, so I also posted this blog here on the SF forums so any Giant Bombers also interested in evil ryu can benefit from the videos.

Written Overviews

Pro Ryu Player "Air", Evil Ryu Write up This is a great write up by Canadian Top player Air. It gos into great detail and makes a great case for Evil Ryu as a viable character. Talks about the practical applications for evil ryu.
Event Hubs Evil Ryu overview this is a fantastic early overview of the character. It has stamina / Stun analysis, Kara throw info, and a  written description of every normal. Reading this with conjunction with watching videos will give a clear impression of what Evil Ryu is, and isn't.

Advanced BnB Combos

For some strange reason the video won't embed, so here is a link.         Some more advanced Combos that rack up some real damage, this video is a must see for Evil Ryu players.

Evil Ryu Tips by Air

A short but informitive video by Air showing some juggles and option selects for Evil Ryu. Only 30 seconds long.

Early Combo video

This are some good combos, However the damage scaling makes the advanced ones fairly unusable in an actual match. This video gives a good idea of what Evil Ryu might be capable of in the near future.

Guard Crush Evil Ryu Videos

Here's the first look at Evil Ryu in a pro level enviernment, DarthArma playing Evil Ryu against Kreymore using Guy. also Marn Commentating giving his opinions on Evil Ryu.

Guard Crush 15

http://www.justin.tv/teamsp00ky/b/283648788 Chris G showing a vary impressive Evil Ryu against Stanford's Sagat. the Chris G set starts @ 20 min, Evil Ryu play starts @ 27 min. (will update to youtube link when Team spooky puts it up on their channel.)

You...know there's a specific section of the site dedicated to guides, right? Just click on the word in the sidebar for the game. IMO, that would be a better place for this than on the forums.

These videos would be cool if we ever got Evil Ryu on consoles.

@example1013: The Guides section of this website isn't exactly the most viewed/used part of GB since it's been busted for as a long time. This forum post is fine since most people wouldn't have found this otherwise.

Good stuff, but like Slash said, let's see if these guys come to console in the "I still care about this game" part of the future.

Also, any guide that relies strongly on Youtube videos isn't a good idea.

At least he's giving it a go. Good starting guide. I hadn't seen 1 or 2 of those videos there. To be honest I am 100x more interested in playing/fighting Oni than anything Evil Ryu but hey. Some people like him a lot.

@TechHits: Good stuff. Do the same for Oni when he comes out and that would be awesome. Trawling through Youtube for these vids is pretty annoying.
#9 Posted by TechHits (1367 posts) -
@Scooper:  That is a good idea if I have heard one.

I approve of this post! Looking through endless amounts of bad quality vids on youtube is always a pain when your looking for new stuff.

Like Scooper I think Oni looks more interesting but I'm still interested to see what E. Ryu can do. His Overhead kick is pretty cool.

Well then, I guess just ignore what I said and keep on going!

As much as I love SF4, the release of AE has been too long coming. I don't have the time or patience to attempt to play a game competitively any more when life has ploughed on.

I'll probably give both a brief bash when it's eventually released (if it's DLC, and not disc-based as rumoured), but nowhere near as seriously as I used to play.

for anyone interested, and didn't watch the entire guard crush 15 stream, I updated the page with Chris G playing Evil Ryu. It was a fantstic set with some great combos doing as much as 40% on stanfords Sagat.

#14 Posted by Bravestar (380 posts) -

I was hoping he would be mid-tier, but he looks really good in those guard crush videos.

#15 Posted by mubress (1517 posts) -
@Bravestar: Even though he can do damage I still think he will be mid tier, doesn't have the mix-up that Akuma does and his health is really low.
#16 Posted by TechHits (1367 posts) -

Just added a great video by Air check it out.

#17 Posted by TechHits (1367 posts) -
@mubress:  I just added a writeup done by Air. He talks about E. Ryu's strategy and how He's different than ryu and akuma, and in some cases better.
#18 Posted by mubress (1517 posts) -
@TechHits:  Interesting stuff. The fact that he builds meter faster than Ryu and has a Ken range kara throw are the most interesting points to me, plus having Akuma's Super and Ryu's Ultra 1 is cool.

I'll be trying him out for sure but I still think his low health/stun will stop me playing him. I'm sure the pros will be able to do some great stuf with him though :)
