Tetsuya Nomura is one of the lead character designers for Square Enix, and director of the Kingdom Hearts series. He now has partial creative control of the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII games and directed the Advent Children CG movie.
Tetsuya Nomura was born in Kochi Prefecture on the island of Shikoku.
Tetsuya Nomura was at a vocational school creating art for advertisements before he began working for Square as a character designer.
In 1992, Square hired him to work on the battle graphics of Final Fantasy V and then as graphic director in 1994 for Final Fantasy VI.
Nomura did not gain any acclaim until 1995 when Square asked him to be the character designer for Final Fantasy VII, after the huge success of the game he returned as the character designer for FFVIII. In 1998, he worked on both Parasite Eve & Brave Fencer Musashiden in 1998.
Afterwards, Nomura worked on several other projects like Ehregiz and Parasite Eve II. He was the character designer for The Bouncer, Final Fantasy X, Final Fantasy X-2 and Final Fantasy XI. He recently became a director, concept artist, and character designer for the Kingdom Hearts series.
Nomura directed the CGI animated film Final Fantasy VII Advent Children, released on September 14, 2006 in Japan and on April 25, 2006 in America. He also worked on the the redesign of the characters featured in the film and also wrote some of the lyrics which appear on the soundtrack.
He was character designer for Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII and the upcoming Dissidia: Final Fantasy.
He is currently working on all three Final Fantasy XIII projects and will be working on multiple projects related to the Kingdom Hearts series.
