Worth it for $20?

#1 Edited by jNerd (2008 posts) -

I've been pretty darn interested in The Saboteur since E3 & it's $20 @ WalMart.
Does it run any different betwixt the consoles? I'd probably pick it up for achievements unless it had better fidelity on the PS3 or something...
I can't believe Dark Void is $30 & Saboteur is $20. I thought Dark Void looked interested back @ E3 too, but we see how well that panned out.

Yes it's a good game

#3 Posted by Dom (436 posts) -

it's a fun game, though i find that it will take time for the "fun" to set in

#4 Posted by Korne (625 posts) -

Go for it... its a good game. Why can't games that I want to play from 6 months ago cost around $25?

I just got Muramasa for $37. I want Silent Hill: SS and Little Kings Story, but they are both fairly pricey.

This game is already $20?  Damn.

#6 Posted by ProfessorEss (7581 posts) -

I got it for 15 last week.

I don't have much of an opinion yet, I'm still trying to get into it.

I paid £30/$46 and thought it was alright. Reminds me a bit of Mercs 2 but this is better.

#9 Posted by Meltac (2011 posts) -

Yeah, it's a very good game, with some very cool and interesting ideas.

#10 Posted by JCrothers--defunct (43 posts) -

its definetly worth 20.

#11 Posted by RichardLOlson (1852 posts) -

I'll have to pick it up...I wasn't sure if it was good or not.  But the color scheme alone looks really interesting.

#12 Posted by Ghostiet (5504 posts) -

20 bones? Get it right now. When it was 60 you could hesitate, but when it's 40 bucks off there is no other option than buying.

#13 Posted by ian6644 (11 posts) -
@jNerd:
yes definitely worth it
#14 Posted by Yummylee (22746 posts) -

Very much so. Though I'd personally prefer Deadly Premonition ;P
#15 Posted by toast_burner (453 posts) -

Its worth it. If you liked Mercinaries but got disapointed by the 2nd one (or enjoyed it somehow), you will probably like this.

Hey, I wrote a review on this a while back when i first got it.:
http://www.giantbomb.com/the-saboteur/61-21616/user_reviews/?review=13338

Having now completed it to its entirety (full 1000 points), I can assure you that if you thought it looked good, and you're none too fussy about perfect games, then I think you will find yourself having tonnes of fun with it.

#17 Posted by LiquidPrince (16297 posts) -

Yes.

#18 Posted by Gabriel (4090 posts) -

I always kinda wanted to play it, the premise is intiguing.

#19 Posted by fugie7 (1109 posts) -

its worth it for that price, it is good game that was really under the radar for everyone.

#20 Posted by CandleJakk (766 posts) -

It's a great game that I felt was very underrated for the most part. It has a few flaws, but it's fun as hell. $20 for it is a fucking steal.

#21 Posted by Tgebbs (34 posts) -

Just wanted to input that this game is $19.99 MSRP now, so it's not like that's a limited time deal you're looking at.

Not saying the game isn't worth it, but it's not a super good deal or anything. It should be like that everywhere.

#22 Edited by trophyhunter (5800 posts) -

yes I bought it for $60 and really love it

My thoughts exactly.  I played a little bit of this game when I got it for Christmas, and it certainly was fun, but that was after a few hours into the game.  Sadly, I only started really having fun about the time I started getting new/better games to play.
So, if you don't plan on getting anything else for a while, I'd say it's definitely worth the price.
#24 Posted by ProfessorEss (7581 posts) -

Finally got into the swing of it last night.
So much so that I can't figure out why I was finding so hard in the first place.
Definitely worth 20 bucks and then some.

#25 Posted by c1337us (5751 posts) -

I bought it out of a bargain bin a month or two ago but I have yet to play it for any great length. It seems Okay though.

#26 Posted by PhatSeeJay (3322 posts) -

I say what Ryan said in a podcast; It's got a lot of rough edges and no real new ideas but if you're going to start playing it, see it to the end. Things ramps up a lot when them Nazis throws everything they got at you.. Oh and the ending. Almost worth $20 alone imo.

Go for it.. through and through.

#27 Posted by Godlyawesomeguy (6407 posts) -

I think the consensus is a resounding yes.

Yes because cheap bastards wait until it sells so poorly that they drop the price even though it is worth 60$. It is very sad that this brilliant game did not get the amount of positive attention it deserved.
#28 Posted by SynergisticSyn (32 posts) -

I spent a week going back and forth wondering if I should spend $20 on this game. The other night I decided to bite the bullet and I have been loving it since. I love the aesthetic of the world, and have been spending hours upon hours running around the French countryside, snapping Nazi necks and blowing shit up. The driving is similar to GTA3, except you want to stay on the road and not hit the French pedestrians you're trying to save. I think I've killed as many as the Nazis have executed in the streets. The stealth is interesting, not realistic, which makes it a bit more fun. I found the gun play surprisingly competent, but I try to avoid it because it doesn't fit my play style.

You really can't go wrong for $20.

holy crap!  that's a lot of destroyed Nazi establishments.  I think it was over 1300 when I added them up.  I'm not sure I could ever get them all.

I played and beat it on a 5 day rental, but I would say the game is worth buying if you want to see the extra content that you don't get for renting.  I kinda wish I hadn't played it yet so I could justify buying it at $20.
#30 Posted by regularassmilk (1445 posts) -

Ah, i'm so glad you asked this. This was going to be one of the first games I bought when I fixed my PS3, I've always had a soft spot for Pandemic, Mercs 1 was my favorite game when it was newer. I played that thing till it broke in half. Well, I found it broke in half one day. Fucking little brothers.

#31 Posted by FavoritoBandito (167 posts) -

I purchased it for $20 a month ago and had an absolute blast with it.  It has it's issues but for $20 I never doubted my purchase.

#32 Posted by hedfone (1731 posts) -

buy six copies of sons of liberty

#33 Posted by AlwaysBeClothing (1532 posts) -

I'm a bit of a weird guy.  I picked up Saboteur at the same time as Uncharted 2 and Assassin's Creed 2.  Of the three games, Saboteur is the only one I've played and I don't regret that at all.  Saboteur is a fun game and I really enjoyed it, for $20 I don't see the reason not to pick it up.

#34 Posted by TooWalrus (13272 posts) -

MERCENARIES 2 WAS WORTH SIXTY DOLLA...

Oh, sorry. Uh, Mercenaries 2 is universally hated and... it's fucking awesome. Is Saboteur as good as Mercs 2?

I'm not trying to sound fanboyish or anything, so don't take this the wrong way, but it's because those are Wii games. Prices don't drop nearly as fast on the Wii as they do on the 360 and PS3. In fact, a lot of the big Wii games still have never dropped in price. That's one thing I love about this set of consoles. Games literally drop in price faster than ever. Within 6 months, it's very likely you'll see a $20, $30, or even a $40 price drop on some awesome games. Within a year, the vast majority of games seem to be down to $20. I hardly ever pay full price for games anymore. It's awesome! It's too bad Nintendo hasn't really followed suit... though MadWorld dropped in price real quick, and so did Zack and Wiki before it became totally rare.

Buy it already!!!

#37 Posted by fugie7 (1109 posts) -

yeah the game is worth 20 bucks.

#38 Posted by xplodedd (1316 posts) -

its worth 20, although i kinda stopped playing half way through, but for 20 its def worth it.

#39 Posted by FirePrince (1772 posts) -

Yes it is worth it.
#40 Posted by themartyr (691 posts) -
@slowbird: Haha, yeah it is a lot of stuff to blow up, but once I got into the way of it, it wasn't too bad. I think it took me about a week of weeknights, destroying an area every night. I can't describe how satisfying it was to hit that last one!
#41 Posted by schizogony (977 posts) -

Mercs 2 is way more fun than The Sab.

#42 Posted by dagas (2968 posts) -

I got it for €20 and it was much better than I expected. I don't understand why it has reviewed so poorly. For me it was a 4/5 game for sure.

#43 Posted by demonbear (1881 posts) -

Bought it for 10$ brand new, for that price i'm having a blast. Sure you've seen sandbox action done better else where but what can I say? I like killing germans.
