Trauma Studios was a game development company founded in 2003 by friends looking to make a game they could enjoy with their friends. They were best known for creating Desert Combat, a successful mod created for DICE’s Battlefield 1942. Desert Combat was a great success, however it did not achieve a retail release as Counterstrike did.
Trauma Studios was acquired by DICE in September 2004. After which they moved onto the core development team for Battlefield 2, released during the summer of 2005. Battlefield 2 achieved great success and sold very well. On June 7, 2005, DICE formally announced the shutdown of Trauma Studio's New York office. The team members of Trauma Studios declined an offer to relocate to DICE Sweden offices. In early 2006 the team from Trauma Studios formed Kaos Studios, a new internal studio for THQ.
