In the final escalator before reaching the roof of the tower, it is revealed that Uncle Death is the president of the Yotsuyama Group, which controls the Tower of Barbs. His original goal was to destroy all of humankind by orchestrating a collision between Earth and the Moon, fuelled by the souls of the dead. But over the course of the game, Uncle Death became such a fan of the player character's performance that he decides to cancel the apocalypse on the spot, killing the gigantic last boss with one fell swoop, and instead instigates New Game+.
