The Vampire Hunter D video game from 1999 for the PS1 was alright... somewhat... but it could have been much better. The intro was pretty badass with the action, it showed that D has the ability to look into the past and the narration was great.

I don't need a video game to be ageless in everything in order to enjoy it, but it's PS1 polygon graphics look pretty bad, even for back then. It should have gone for what the Castlevania games did, a detail 2D side-scroller, like Symphony of the Night, which was a PS1 game and one of the best in the series.

    Controls

It's controls are very much broken and it tries to be like Resident Evil with it's changing camera angles. Trying to move, fight and hit anything or avoid from being hit becomes frustrating.

    Characters and Voice Acting

Leila is playable at one point and she's less of a bitch in the game. Most of the Marcus brothers don't appear expect Borgoff, which was fine by me, I didn't care for any of them, in the film they acted more like lowlife gangsters. Only two of the Barbarois mutants (Benge and Mashira), appear as enemies, Caroline is not featured.

The voice acting was pretty good, D was voiced by John DeMita and he was just as good as Andrew Philpot (Bloodlust) and Michael McConnohie (VHD 1985), he manage to capture the character. D's Left Hand was voiced by John Hostetter and he was far better than Michael McShane (Bloodlust). Hostetter acted more like the character from the books and the first film.

Compare them to the new dub of the 1985 film that came out in August of 2015... D is suppose to be an emotionless but confident sounding character, but the new voice sounds like a 20 year old trying to act tough...

    Music

The soundtrack was pretty good and creepy like the title screen. The ending music was even better than the ending music in Bloodlust.

    Storyline

I ended up enjoining the way the story was told in the video game more than in the animated film, but this is not enough to save the game. I hope make another VHD video game based on either the first film or on one of the novels. They could do a whole video game series based on the novels.
