A Quick Look at Gears of War 3's Paid Weapons Skins

Seems a little greedy. This is like a F2P model but its still a 60 dollar game. They want to have their cake and eat it too.

$45 dollars for some skins...sure why not.

Hey we know that for a lot of you buying our game that $60 is quite a lot of money so we've got just the solution to solve your problems. Give us more money for stuff you don't even really need! You get to say "look how cool I am" and we get to sleep in beds made of your money! EVERYBODY WINS!

I'll admit - for a split second I was worried that this would be some sort of advertisement for the GoW3 DLC. Thankfully, Jeff and Patrick's absolute trashing of this ridiculous DLC has renewed my faith in Giant Bomb and all that it stands for.

This is really pathetic. Those aren't even textures with a lot handwork but rather repeated cheap patterns and simple tinting. I doubt any of those shown skins take a professional texturer more than 10minutes to make.

So you go online and check out the skins, you browse around for a lil' bit and decide what one you like best. You decide that you like it so much that you're gonna go pay for it. You upload your points, download the key, load up the game and choose the skin for your assault rifle/shotgun. Game time. You appear at the spawn, with your shiny new skin gleaming, iridescant and beautiful as a peacock. Your team mates pause for a while to admire it, and using this pause you sprint out of the spawn-point, turn left to rush the one-shot, get there before anyone else, throw your newly-customised death machine to the floor and prepare your thumbs to headshot some locust-scum. Only, you notice that now your gun is grey, and the money you just spent was completely wasted. You turn to your wallet, pull out your credit card and read the numbers as if to somehow glean a deeper understanding of it all. But there is no deeper understanding. Headshot. You're dead. Oh, and you've been scammed, sweetheart.

I'm all for funny/useless/stupid aesthetic mods, but I find this to be too funny, too useless and too stupid to spend any money on.

My limited edition came today and i bought the season pass and the all skin pack right away and im not even a huge gears fan.

I'm not trying to defend this DLC here, but it's not really the same as horse armor. At least here you're playing with other people and your skins can give you a unique look in multiplayer matches if you care about that kind of stuff.

Watching this and future devs using the FTP MMO style of DLC. 45$ 45 DOLLARS! For cheaply (mostly crappy) made texture skins, some animated. Most of those probably only took 5 mins, or up to a day, to make. People buy them, so get use to seeing this.

I'm just glad this in-game paid bullshit will never end up in my favorite games, like TF2 or Diablo.

The problem is that there are people actually buying this stuff. If nobody did they wouldn't include it. The only way to make this stop is to not buy it. The game companies will realize that the work to get this in market will not be worth it and figure out something else to nickel and dime us.

earlier today when they were first put up they mistakenly put one of the skins "Haze" up as free, so i downloaded that lol, apparently they fixed it though.

the whole thing is disgusting though, i mean im not gonna protest the game or anything, but i wont be buying any skins.

...i might buy one. maybe.

No it's not! I've been playing Gears 2 since it came out. There's no way I could justify getting that garbage, at least just get the season pass and that's it.

Ya, some of the excuses for this is stupid. I wouldn't be surprised if the money did go to that stuff but EPIC should seriously have enough damn money.

I understand that its on the disc for a reason but that is a lot of money for skins.

I've only ever bought one skin and it was a different model for Ryu Hayabusa in Ninja Gaiden 2.

Using the Modern Warfare boycott group is a bad example.

IIRC, a lot of those people joined the group the day MW came out, and Steam actually organizes how it shows groups by who's actively playing a game first, then who's online, then all people without Steam running. There were hundreds of people in that group, and less than 50 on the first page playing MW2. I remember some people saying that they checked out the rest of the group, and the amount of people playing MW2 fell off dramatically after that "damning" first page.

As much as I love Gears I'm not gonna waste money on this. My money is gonna go to RE 4 and CVX HD
