A Quick Look at Gears of War 3's Paid Weapons Skins

So are dumb Gears DLC things this year's Game Room? Stuff that Jeff buys even though he probably shouldn't?

I'm buying these, i'll be playing Gears 3 for a looong time so it's worth it for me.

Great video, but god damn who would buy that crap! Gunna laugh at some fools tomorrow when i see them running around with their paid for gun skins. :p

I'm just glad this in-game paid bullshit will never end up in my favorite games, like TF2 or Diablo.

Watching this and future devs using the FTP MMO style of DLC. 45$ 45 DOLLARS! For cheaply (mostly crappy) made texture skins, some animated. Most of those probably only took 5 mins, or up to a day, to make. People buy them, so get use to seeing this.

I would actually say that horse armour was a better deal, more useful and cheaper.

My limited edition came today and i bought the season pass and the all skin pack right away and im not even a huge gears fan.

So you go online and check out the skins, you browse around for a lil' bit and decide what one you like best. You decide that you like it so much that you're gonna go pay for it. You upload your points, download the key, load up the game and choose the skin for your assault rifle/shotgun. Game time. You appear at the spawn, with your shiny new skin gleaming, iridescant and beautiful as a peacock. Your team mates pause for a while to admire it, and using this pause you sprint out of the spawn-point, turn left to rush the one-shot, get there before anyone else, throw your newly-customised death machine to the floor and prepare your thumbs to headshot some locust-scum. Only, you notice that now your gun is grey, and the money you just spent was completely wasted. You turn to your wallet, pull out your credit card and read the numbers as if to somehow glean a deeper understanding of it all. But there is no deeper understanding. Headshot. You're dead. Oh, and you've been scammed, sweetheart.

I'm all for funny/useless/stupid aesthetic mods, but I find this to be too funny, too useless and too stupid to spend any money on.

This is really pathetic. Those aren't even textures with a lot handwork but rather repeated cheap patterns and simple tinting. I doubt any of those shown skins take a professional texturer more than 10minutes to make.

I'll admit - for a split second I was worried that this would be some sort of advertisement for the GoW3 DLC. Thankfully, Jeff and Patrick's absolute trashing of this ridiculous DLC has renewed my faith in Giant Bomb and all that it stands for.

Jeff spends money irresponsibly, first game room games, then a lifetime subscription to star trek online and now this

Valve does the same thing with the TF2 hats and the Portal nonsense. Nobody gives them shit for it.

Hey we know that for a lot of you buying our game that $60 is quite a lot of money so we've got just the solution to solve your problems. Give us more money for stuff you don't even really need! You get to say "look how cool I am" and we get to sleep in beds made of your money! EVERYBODY WINS!

$45 dollars for some skins...sure why not.

Seems a little greedy. This is like a F2P model but its still a 60 dollar game. They want to have their cake and eat it too.

Cliff said that money goes towards paying for the servers, which is great. Ill most likely buy a couple packs. The Team Metals one looks quite nice. To anyone who pays more than half the price of the full game for skins, get help.

This is really dirty and Epic should be ashamed for themselves. Don't sell it just let us unlock it somehow !

So, this is how Jeff is getting rid of the Game Room purchasing shakes.

As an artists who makes art for games as a living, the majority of those skins probably take no more than 5 minutes each, the animated ones a little bit more.

Its just crazy how much they're charging for this stuff and thats its already on the disk, but people will buy it and we'll see more unfortunately.

With this new in-game pay model will Jeff and the crew have enough reserves from their company credit card to answer every paid DLC question down the road? Or will it all be just, diminishing returns? 

I kind of feel sick that even jeff spent money on this. The bad guys are winning.

I don't really get the outrage about this stuff. It doesn't really affect the game at all. It's arguably overpricing weapon textures, but if you think they're dumb, or that they're too expensive you don't have to buy them.
