Honestly though, I think you´re talking from the perspective of someone who grew up on different games, probably the NES era or something. These new generations of gamers may be interested in games like RDR, but did you ever see someone like this play something like RDR? Despite it being relatively handholdy, a lot of people quickly lost interest in the story and were just roaming around shooting dudes. I honestly want to know how many people put the game down before or during the Mexico stuff. My guess is a lot of people.

Don´t take my stance as some elitist-hardcore gamer entitlement thing. All I want to say is that audiences for all forms of entertainment have changed a lot. The world has become a busier place. Now we have more people talking during movies (because they can´t just sit still and shut up for 90 minutes) and straight up refusing to participate in story segments of games unless they are absolutely forced to do so. Getting the attention of people through media is the hardest thing in the world.

Brad's ADHD made this painful to watch. How did he manage to get through Skyrim?

This is great. I always love different features than juay quick looks and vidwo reviews. Other than the hi-profile games, i feel like a quick look and a written text do the job of a video review and maybe even better. I like seeing even the slower moments in games rather than just watching explosions happening while someone reads their text review in front of a camera.

@bybeach Perhaps I can reintroduce you to Stuart:

Dave and Patrick talked about Klingons for probably about 5 minutes total. Brad was similarly not stuck on any one part for more than a few minutes. It's kind of a shame; I was led to believe this would be a disaster.

Brad plays The Darkness like my 12 year old nephew.

Whether you consider it paying for a service or donating, the end result is still the same: keeping their websites going, putting money into their pockets so they can pay their bills, all so that they can continue to do what they do. The gist of my point was that "paying for a service" does not grant us shareholder status. They are happy to listen to suggestions because they care about their customers, but us paying them money does not grant us ownership in the company, and therefore there is no contractual obligation for them to act upon our demands. To read some of these comments, it's clear some people don't understand this distinction, which is why I felt it an important point to raise.

I perhaps chose my wording poorly when I said "donation". The intent was to get across that we're giving them money so they can continue to do what they do, because subscriber fees go a long way towards paying their bills, along with the ads and whatnot. The actual "service" end of the subscription -- as in, quality and usability enhancements for paid users -- is pretty slim. There's not a whole lot I can do as a paid member, in terms of site usage, that I couldn't as a free member. The actual incentive for paying is the extra two or three videos a month.

And I think that's where I was coming from; I don't consider extra videos a "service" so much as "bonus content to thank you for your patronage." If the site usage upgrades were all that came as part of the package, it wouldn't be worth it to me; I pay a subscription because I really like their personality-driven content, enough that I'm willing to give money to see a little more of that each month. But the thing is, I like the content of this site so much that I'd pay a subscription even if I didn't get anything out of it, because I want to help pay the bills and ensure that Giant Bomb isn't going anywhere anytime soon -- and that is why "donation" was the primary word that came to my mind when I was writing that paragraph. Like I said, probably a poor choice of wording, since not everyone feels the same way I do on that point.

I wouldn't use the word donating, GB I do believe uses 'subscribe'. The argument is unnecessary, nothing really changes except the view of why monies are collected. I think it may very well have to do, perhaps legally, with GB being a .com instead of a .org. The one radio station that I listen and even donated to is a .org. One is a business for profit, the other not.

People are way over-reacting. Brad was thrown into some late parts of a game he didn't play in years. And The Darkness is not the easiest shooter to get into in general. You have to play it for a few hours to get used to the controls and to get a feel for the action.

It was just the first thought that popped into my head, I feel like there was some other game that implemented a similar concept.

Even when watching this live, Brad made it so much harder than he needed to. The thing that bugged me the most when they played this was that Brad said the game gave no indication for what he was doing against the darkness but it gives tons. When you shoot the darkness, your girlfriend pops up on screen, the bottom corner is giving hints saying to find another way, the darkness taunts you to give in.

Brad also didn't particularly care for using the Darkness. Even just having the Darkness out helps you by reducing damage. I'm surprised that he didn't notice that he died very quickly without vs. with.

That said, he did start getting the game the more he played. Using the powers etc so I'd like to see a part 2 and finish this off.

I stopped playing this game at exactly the same point.

I feel really bad for anyone who actually wanted to see how this game plays out and was interested in its story. 
 
It is really hard to make anything out over the loud and completely obnoxious rants going on about creating some random horror movie while brad is trying to figure out how to play. Its the equivalent of a group of people talking loudly in front of you in the theatres.
