Man, I haven't heard VO like that since the bad ol' days of Grandia and Pre-Bebop dubbing.

Voice acting is good, but Jesus the quality is poor. I do so hate when this happens, but I can deal. Definitely getting this game.

I played about 25 hours of this back when it came out in 2012, and I thought it was really solid. I'll hopefully get around to finishing it soon, but SMT4 kind of stole my 3DS slot once that came out. I think old-school RPG fans will go insane over it.

It uses being on the 3DS really well in that it doesn't railroad you a ton with the story. It's easy to play in shorter bursts, and there's lots of side content. The voice-acting in this doesn't seem especially bad. It just seems like the audio quality is a direct rip from the audio that will be in the game. That audio has been tuned for the size constraints and sound abilities of the 3DS, and so will sound a lot less weird in context.

Despite what this video depicts, it's also a really gorgeous game. It's use of 3D is really subtle, but quite amazing. It's one of the best-looking games I've played on the system. The design-work was done with a keen eye toward 3D and the limitations of the system.

It makes me sad that people make weird uninformed knee-jerk conclusions about a game like this. The game's been out for over a year. The fact that the game is actually good, despite what you might think it looks like, is very clear, and you can read all about it on the internet.

Look, I have no idea what Chaos Wars is...but I played Baten Kaitos, which has a non-optional english VO acted by people who had little grasp on sentence structure and intonation, AND sounded like they were talking into paper cups.
This is no Baten Kaitos.

Still such an awkward yet forgettable name. Solid games though.

Don't care about voice acting. Successor to 4 Heroes of Light. Will play the hell from this.

After playing SMT4, it's really insane how much more Atlus does with so much less.

Courageously Standard. Heroically Common. Spectacularly unremarkable. I should be a professional JRPG title creator.

All this strikes me as just weird, but there was one truly beautiful scene there. I don't think it had any of those ppl. in it. and yes most of the voice acting is amazingly bad. I do understand I think the early JPRG appeal, but the later stuff mostly seems real bad. From when they lost their sense of humor.

There's not a huge amount, but what we have gotten has mostly been pretty high quality. Atlus in particular has brought over some good stuff, including Etrian Odyssey 4 (with a new EO game coming out next week), the remake of Soul Hackers, a damn fine port of Devil Survivor, and SMT IV.

Then, of course, there's Fire Emblem: Awakening, and Tales of the Abyss (if tales games are your thing, I guess). New Pokemons are on the way, as well as Rune Factory 4.

Just stay away from Paper Mario: Sticker Star. That one was pretty disappointing.

Was the budget for this game fifteen dollars?

An effortless title for a game deserves an effortless title for the trailer... Well, at least I thought it was funny.

Guy 1: "We need to record the new English dialogue for this game, but we have no mics!!"

Guy 2: "Just go to Walmart. They sell everything!! I'm sure their microphones will be of the highest quality."

Kinda make me want to pick up a 3DS finally. I bought a DS specifically to play JRPGs. Are there many on the 3DS?

Fwooo boy... I give thanks to this trailer for reminding me why I've stayed away from JRPGs for years.

Yeah! I really want to go back to that, but I loved what I played of it. I was very happy to hear news about this being localized, just when I had kind of written it off.

Also, the more outrageous the title, the better is what I say.

This is a Square-Enix and Nintendo thing, right? Two companies known for very competent translations. So I'm thinking they're trying to actively mock the English language with this series. Bravely Default: Flying Fairy, BD: Praying Brage [sic], BD: For The Sequel. I mean, seriously, three English titles that are ALL total nonsense?

If they didn't care about the voice acting they should have hired me, I need the work.

To be fair, it's a 3DS game. TBH wouldn't expect full voice-acting from a 3DS game, and when I do, that quality is about right.

Looks like a Final Fantasy/every other JRPG-inspired game. It's not that bad.

I dunno, feels like it's harder to be the only non-cynic in gaming circles sometimes.

I usually give english a go when I have the option so I don't have to focus on the subtitles for a game, but I guess I know ahead of time that's not happening.

So, from this trailer, it would seem that the gameplay consists almost entirely of running from one side of the screen to the other, driving a boat of some kind, and — very occasionally — a turn-based battle.

It's hard not to be cynical when the first line of the trailer sounds like someone put a microphone in their mouth while trying to read a script.
