@djjoejoe: @patman99: @golguin:

Oops, apparently I had a brain fart. It's not an email they sent out; I think I discovered the name voting thing through Tim Schafer's Twitter feed.

So yea, no backers got an email, which they probably should have done.

I expected the art to be, I dunno, more Double Fine-y? Looks super impressive though; kinda wish I'd backed now.

Looks Double Finey as fuck to me.

Weird but nice trailer. I want to guess that the two characters switch places since they seem bored with their "world".

This is beating a dead horse to death, but just remember that they initially wanted 400K (and another 400K to match from other investors). What would have it looked like at less than a third of their current budget?

@zurv: I agree. They have a lot of interesting concepts that aren't very fun in practice. Stacked was a pile of crap in hindsight. Costume Quest is one of their better recent outputs, but every single battle felt like exactly the same thing.

QUALITY. I don't like point and click adventure games but I will likely buy it anyway because I want to support the existence of things like this. :)

@ch3burashka: Since old school adventure games didn't have it I guess they would have left stuff like voice acting out of the game. Maybe a more 'plain' adventure art style with less effects, polish and animations. Also Windows only based on some readily available adventure game engine instead of building their own?

Anyways, I'm glad they got the $3 Mio. and I can't wait for the game to be done. Really like the art and I love the way the dialog font looks (very ScummVM like).

No, they talked about in on the backer forums and on twitter. It was a little weird to not get an update on kickstarter.

Curse me for not backing this.

I pretty strongly dislike part of this whole Kickstarter idea - it sort of feels like you are investing in the product angel investor style, but aren't getting your part of the profit. That said, after much back and forth I did end up backing it back then, and to be honest the documentary episodes alone have been worth the 'investment' already.

Even though I absolutely love Tim's games, especially Grim Fandango and Psychonauts, I just can't help but to feel... odd about this project. People basically funded a game which they had no idea what it was going to be other than an... old-school adventure game. No title, no screenshots, no videos, no premise, no nothing. People basically greenlit a whole project with... nothing. And then, a whole yearlater, we're getting some snippets of information. Taking our time, are we? Tim better deliver on his promises.

A big part of the premise for this project was that there would also be a documentary series alongside development to give people some insight into the process. So if they'd already thought of a premise for the game, or a title, or generated some art, then that would be something they couldn't document. And remember, the amount they were asking for was modest enough that there was going to be a sub Costume Quest level of content for this game. The reason it's taken longer is because the money that people offered gave it the opportunity to become a much more fully realized game than they originally intended.

I backed this just for the documentary. I can't be the only one who'd rather watch stuff about making a game instead of playing the actual game? But the game at least looks purty so thats a bonus

Glad to see people liking this. I really didn't and I was worried there would be a backlash among the backers. Actually happy to be in the minority for once.

Beautiful trailer. I've stayed away from the exclusive previews so far--and very happy I did. Looks different, and looks like great care was put toward the art style, almost lovingly made.

Obviously you missed the part where they release documentary episodes every couple of months to keep us updated on the progress of the game...and the part where they have an entire forum community dedicated to giving opinions on the game's settings and the concept art etc.

They've been pretty open with the development for a long time, that's kinda the entire point of the project...Not to mention those two games are obviously evidence that they know how to make character driven adventures...

For those don't know (backers included), the name of the project was officially revealed at Double Fine's PAX East panel Sunday morning. The webpage went live at that very moment as well, with the server being activated live on the big screen at the panel.

I only backed because of the documentary. 2 Player Productions are really good at what they do and they totally delivered so far.
