was never into this series

Posted by RVonE

I liked the first two games but they lost me after those.

Posted by LethalKi11ler

Can't wait to pick it up :) Been following the story since the first one and have all the spinoffs so I'm protected against the haters :P

Posted by ninkendo

After finishing with catching up on all the games last week it's pretty amazing how the whole story makes sense now. My hype for 3D has been increased by tenfold!

Posted by ToxicFruit

@RVonE: Same here, that is why i am wondering if this is the next game to play after KH 2

There have been so many spin-offs that i am not even sure anymore :S

Posted by DoctorWelch

Fuck you, I will not celebrate giant piles of poo.

Posted by AngelN7

@LethalKi11ler: I kinda hate that this is a Spin-off when it covers what's essentially the heroes training before going to battle against the big bad , KH3 will probably start with a grown up Sora and Riku ready to face Xeharnot but if you didn't play BBS or this one you'll be wondering ... what!? when , who?

Posted by ninkendo

@Tfruit: At the very least you'll have needed to play KH1, KH2 and Birth By Sleep. Those have most of the major details. The other games have other details here and there, but not so much that you'd be lost without them.

Or you could just read a wiki about them.

These spin-offs need to stop- just give us Kingdom Hearts 3 already!

Posted by RecSpec

Read the Birth By Sleep plot summary and I could not understand a damn bit of it. Criminy this series has gone off the deep end.

Posted by peritus

They lost me half-way through the 1st game.

But that's really more my fault. i just got stuck.

Posted by Vonocourt

I'd rather celebrate this than my birthday today.

Posted by TepidShark

I am a Kingdom Hearts supporter, but I still find the fact that they said "new features" kind of funny. Way to state the obvious there.

Posted by MrMazz

not weird enough

Posted by Toxin066

I'm about ready for a KH HD pack.

Glorious 3D, huh?

I couldn't help but thinking about Kim Jong-il when I read "GLORIOUS 3D".

Posted by Chemin

I enjoyed the first game. Never played anything after that.

Posted by AuthenticM

I never understood why people were into this franchise.

Posted by Counterclockwork87

I enjoyed the demo so I may pick this up...seems like it could be the best Kingdom Hearts since the second one.

But man, dat ending in Birth by Sleep! Wow! Mind-blowing in terms of what you can get away with in a product with the name Disney on it.

Posted by Anwar

you can say weird twenty times more and than it still won't be funny. I don't even care about this franchise, but, goddamn, not everything needs to be a joke.

Edited by I_Stay_Puft

Man I'm so behind, think I'll try and marathon through Birth by Sleep on psp before grabbing this. I think it'll all be worth it just to explore that tron world again.

Weird that their hasn't been a high def Kingdom Hearts game yet. I guess Nintendo has some absurd licensing deal or some nonsense.

Posted by MeatSim

Well at least this means no more trailers for this game.

Posted by Cloneslayer

God damn, just make KH3! If your not in the air 90% of the time your doing it wrong!

I think it is more that Nomura's team can't seem to get Versus XIII out the door.

I just... what??? I thought this was a prequel. If so which game is it a prequel too? Is it actually a sequel? I have no idea where this could possibly fit in the timeline unless it takes place after Kingdom Hearts II. Little help anybody?

Wasn't that canceled recenty? Sucks because out of all of Squares internal teams they seem to be the only ones capable of doing anything innovative and different.

@Lazyaza: Nope not canceled. Source.

It's a sequel. Riku and Sora are taking the mark of master test to fight the eventual "big bad" in KHIII. It is not a prequal to anything.

I think people get confused with things like Birth by Sleep where the game is a prequal to everything, as in being the first game in the timeline, but the secret ending shows a conversation where Aqua is talking to a person about events that happened after KHII. It also shows the ending of KHII (Sora getting the letter in the bottle) and continues that scene.

Then you have KH 358/2 days that spans the timeline of KH1, Chain of Memories, and KHII.

None of it is confusing because I've played ever game except for KH Re:coded, and I know when one game is referencing events in one of the other games. Its like sporadically watching episodes of Game of Thrones or Breaking Bad and not knowing what's going on. You can't expect to know what's going on by missing episodes.

Yeah but releasing them on different systems is like if HBO asked you to subscribe to 4 different channels in order to watch all of the episodes.

I see what you are saying, but it is a different thing. I mean, in what other Disney product, other then Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep, does the bad guy come out of it, in the end, better off then the good guys?

I think it's a great way to buckle the "good always triumphs" trope that the majority of media has. People who follow the series know that what happens to Aqua, Terra, and Ven will potentially be fixed by Riku and Sora, but Aqua still has to deal with 10 years of her situation.

I think 358/2 Days gave Xion the rawest deal out of any KH character with Aqua a close 2nd place.

That's true but if you take it solely based on what happens in Birth by Sleep, evil kind of wins.

Like Golguin suggested, I don't think they would have done something like that if it wasn't a prequel and you'd "know" that good would win out in the end. I never finished Crisis Core, but that's another example of a prequel where you know everyone is fucked before you get started. From the same company too.

Also: Swedish version of Hellfire is totally better.

Sure, taken by itself Birth By Sleep gives the 3 main characters a pretty raw deal and Xehanort does get what he wants, but Aqua's actions in the end leave the scenario at almost a draw since Xehanort isn't able to act. I guess you could say the 3 sacrificed themselves to prevent Xehanort from proceeding for the time being. I will agree that "evil" has the most points at the end of that game, but it points to a solution further down the road.

The original KH plays it similar with the restoration of the worlds at the price of Riku's and Mickey's imprisonment in the World of Darkness. Hell, Chain of Memories does it too with Namine's actions causing Sora, Donald, and Goofy to be put into stasis while other characters keep things in order.

I still say that 358/2 days has the most tragic situation with Xion. It doesn't have "evil" come up on top at the end, but she gets kicked around by everyone throughout the game. What do you do when the bad guys simply want to use you and the good guys want the KH equivalence of death for you? Of course, simply dying isn't enough as the ultimate kick in the nuts comes in the form of everyone forgetting you even existed.

I don't know what happens in Dream Drop Distance, but I hope she can be restored. The series has hinted that its a possibility.

@Terrents: It was a funny game at first to play "Gee, is this an Alex post?" but good god is it tiresome now.

I like Alex but it's gotten to schticky status.

For Birth by Sleep I mostly go on what actually occurred, rather then what is hinted at. But I still see your point. I personally considered other characters finishing a game with a raw deal different then Birth by Sleep because in that game you were actually controlling and a lot of time playing as those characters. Also, what differences it for me is the combination of those characters getting a raw deal and Xehanort mostly coming out of it pretty well. I can still see what you mean about the other characters though.
