Having just watched my GF play a few hours of sonic adventure 2 for gamecube a few weeks ago I think i will pass. It seems to be a good enough version as any and HD isn't going to help that game in any single way. However the chance to use "Escape from the city" In that trailer was sorely missed. Nostalgia fail..

Nights is the only one of these games I haven't played. I played the Sonic Adventure 2 demo that came with my PSO and remember the frame rate being incredible for the Dreamcast. JGR is ok but I don't think these games will hold up very well to my nostalgia. Pass-edena.

I really like Sonic Adventure Battle 2 and Jet Set Radio, so this is kind of exciting. I'm sure my enjoyment of SAB2 is mostly nostalgic, but I have no nostalgia for Jet Set Radio and I think it holds up pretty well. As for Nights, I really don't think it's very fun anymore.

Pricing is kind of important here though, I'd be a lot more tempted to get these at 800 points than 1200, and I don't think I'm alone on that. Spinning it as spending $17.50 on a single titles that are now over 10 years old, with the only difference being slightly better graphics and a small amount of extras is not terribly enticing. If you get all three games, you're pretty much looking at the price of a brand new game coming out this year. Though, these games also make for good Deal of the Week games.

Nights is one of those games that is super well regarded for being so influential in the past. I really think a lot of people haven't gone back and played it again since then. I think this will be an eye opener for them. It really doesn't stand up anymore, sadly.

Jet Set Radio though is friggin amazing.

Lol yeah, complete misrepresentation. All dull and washed out on the CRT TV and then 'oh wow, my eyes, popping colour.' We're not stupid Sega, well we'll see by the sales if we're not. Jet Set Radio for me and that's it.

I'm beginning to think the best 'legacy' release Sega could put out at this point is Bayonetta.

Sega's re-released a lot of their Genesis library multiple times, but for games like NiGHTS and Jet Set Radio, this is literally the first time they've been available on anything other than their original consoles (The Saturn and the Dreamcast, respectively). In Sonic Adventure 2's case, this is the third time it's been re-released; but the second re-release was in 2001, so that was quite a long time ago.

Now, if only the new version of SA2 let me skip EVERY SINGLE KNUCKLES AND ROUGE MISSION, I'd be totally on board with playing that game again, but there's no way I'm going through that crap again.

NiGHTS is an instant buy. Never cared much for JSR. I get the appeal and why folks like it, but I just wasn't that into it.

It could be interesting to see what the developers behind these titles have to say on how they created them and what process their design and testing was etc. Could be cool if done right.

I'll be interested in playing the Nights trial as I've never played the series.

Sonic Adventure 2 is a definite pass. JSR is very tempting though. I had a lot more fun with the Xbox Jet Set Radio game then I did with the Dreamcast one so I'll have to see how the tiral holds up.

I'm with you buddy. I've been waiting for a HD re-release for so long, it feels like they've released Sonic Adventure a bunch of times and overlooked 2, and it's honestly a much better game. If the Steam version is good it will be worth the wait though I guess.

Word. The original Sonic Adventure was never good in my opinion but 2 was mind blowing. I mean it's the one Sonic game where I actually like playing as people other then Sonic. Also it has some of the best music in the series.

Well, these re-releases only cost 10 bucks each. If this was released as a collection I could see it costing something like 30 or 40 bucks if they'd put 4 games in, so this doesn't seem like a rip-off to me.

I always thought Nights was absolute shit, but I do have fond memories of both JSR and Sonic Adventure 2. I'm afraid to re-visit those memories because I'm almost 100% sure they'll be destroyed forever.

SEGA have been releasing lots of ports and emulated versions of their old games on Steam: SEGA Genesis Collection 5 as well as Crazy Taxi and a bunch of Sonic games. Probably the same stuff they pumped out on PSN and Xbox Live a couple of years ago.

Rolling around at the speed of sound,

Got places to go, gotta FOLLOW MY RAINBOW!

Can't stick around now, gotta keep movin' on,

Guess what lies ahead, only ONE WAY TO FIND OUT!

[Hook]

Must keep on movin' ahead,

No time for guessin', follow my path instead!

Trust in me no matter what you may see,

Take my lead, I'll set you free,

Follow me, set me free,

Trust me and we will escape from the city,

I'll make it through, follow,

Follow me, set me free,

Trust me and we will escape from the city,

I'll make it through from HERE TO YOOOOOOU

FOLLOW ME! OH, YEAH-HEAH!

Got enemies lurking around every turn,

Trust in your feelings, got to LIVE AND LEARN!

No time for messin', only one way through,

Got no other option, only one thing to do!

[Hook]

(Developer commentary seems interesting, but the only game I really care to play is JSR. I might get the others as I've never played Nights and SA2 is one of my more nostalgic titles. Pricing will be a major factor.)

NiGHTS' draw distance still seems pretty crap, but let's see when it comes out. I wonder how this version was made, using some kind of special-cased emulation, or using the original source code with a compatibility layer?

Sorry Sega, I've already ruined my perception of Sonic Adventure 2 as a good game (and by proxy, my childhood) by making the mistake of trying to play it recently. Guess what? The camera really was always that bad.

@msavo: I sometimes go back to SA2 to blast through some Sonic or Shadow levels. Some people find the controls and camera clunky, but once you master them you can really blast through levels.

Also, while it is a remix, I feel my current jam is appropriate.

NiGHTS is specifically designed to have a low draw distance - or at least, The Saturn version is. There was a fan out there trying to reverse engineer NiGHTS on PC four or five years ago and he showed what levels looked like with the draw distance cranked all the way up and it looked like cluttered, unintelligible nonsense. NiGHTS needs a low draw distance in order to look "correct", and it's not like the game is overly reliant on what you can see on the horizon.

My understanding is the version they're porting to XBLA is a port of the Japan-only Playstation 2 remake released in 2007. That version was not a port (since porting Saturn games is apparently really difficult), but a literal from-the-ground-up remake. As such, the controls in the PS2 version aren't quite right, among other things. They probably won't fix it for the XBLA release, either.

Sonic Adventure 2 is awesome and a widescreen version sounds awesome. I understand why people woudlnt like it though.

nights is a good re-release as its never been re-relased and its not like the saturn is easy to find or emulate. I wont be buying it though.

I know a lot of people like jet grind so good on their part too.

SEGA shouldnt be hated for re-relasesing these games as they make sense for newer games to re-release. now saying sega hasnt released any full games of note in the last year or so...yea i have no defense for that. Theyre just a different company now with different goals i guess

@ArbitraryWater: I'm with you on that. It's silly how people give Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 free rides while savaging every other 3D Sonic to come afterwards. They all had the same crappy cameras, controls and stupid friends. Were people just more forgiving in 1999-2001?
