I got my girlfriend a decent coffee machine for her birthday and our house just smells like coffee all the time now :(

GOTY is bullshit anyways. Its such an arbitrary distinction.

At work there is a pseudo serious coffee makes and whenever someone uses it the entire space is permeated with an intense coffee aroma - pleasant at first but tiring after an hour

Kentucky Route Zero GOTY all years :P Patrick, you really should play the other episodes. But yeah, wait until it's finished to consider it GOTY for some outlets and for others those episodes are just too damn good.

I take it you guys aren't gonna get to play Persona Q before the break, if at all? A shame, cause it's a damn fine RPG that deserves GOTY awards consideration, even up alongside heavy hitters like Dragon Age.

Also, thank God someone else is with me on Dark Souls II. That game just rubbed me the wrong way so much, every single thing felt inferior to the original (I haven't played Demons' Souls yet); combat, enemy designs, variety of weapons, even the level designs felt a lot more generic. I feel like I ran through 3 different variants on Blighttown/Undead Burg before I ended up trading it in for Fire Emblem: Awakening.

I agree with your sentiment, but...dude, I think you were overly generous in years. At least I hope you were, 'cause I find the thought of technology and, more specifically, our way of interacting with it not changing in even the next fifty years depressing. This, basically. The arguments that it spawns are phenomenally stupid as well. When it comes down to deciding if a racing game deserves a higher spot over a shooter, you know something went wrong somewhere. Comparing two different games in the same genre is hard enough, but doing that for titles from entirely different genres makes zero sense.

Hmm if you enjoy that sort of depth in the world and the characters, I hope you will eventually play The Witcher 3 Patrick. (Going by the previous entries.) That world is so chock-full (is that a word) of meaningful questions and conversations and situations. I loved the part in the previous Witchers in which Geralt runs into a King in an unexpected way. And that is the one thing he really didn't need. There are not many games that have the depth to see your main character avoiding politics, because you can't easily say no to a King. I think that sort of stuff is just awesome and makes a game feel like it matters. Like any decision and anything that happens in it matters.

@theindomitablesnowman: it's amazing how many people would agree with you on PQ (myself included for sure). Once you get the flow of battle and the dungeon mechanics down, this game is great. And the story is on par with a main numbered title, unlike Arena.

Very excited for Vinny coming to the SF office! And Patrick too.

@bboymaestro: I don't know if I'd go that far on the story, but I haven't gotten past the second labyrinth, and I'll gladly concede that the character dialogue is top-notch, and made me laugh my ass off several times. (Their explanation of the term F.O.E. had me rolling. It's just so damn absurd!) I totally agree with you about the mechanics though, and the game even serves as a great introduction to Etrian Odyssey, since it has some fantastic additions to the mapmaking, like context-sensitive icons.

I just hope it didn't come out too close to holidays for a proper Quick Look, especially with the offical Etrian Odyssey Guy back at the mothership!
