Dark Souls II Has a New Teaser Trailer

This would've spoiled that dragon area for me. I glad I avoided all the content pre release.

I think this series was sort of a wonderful accident. Nobody but From Software seemed to know that people wanted trial and error, pattern memorization action games to come back. Then, they also nailed this unheard of post-apocalyptic / medieval setting where, for once, it actually made sense that everyone in the area you're exploring is murderous and insane. That makes each encounter much more compelling than the usual 'it's a video game, so you do video game things' attitude. It felt real and threatening.

The story perfectly sets up the gameplay, and vice versa. It's also a rare case of a medium sized developer doing well this generation. Basically them, Telltale, and Firaxis are the entire club.

This trailer seems pretty sweet; I love the tunnel sections already. I hope that close to release, they can pull off something as as good as the all saints day trailer for the first Dark Souls, the one that showed off Quelaag and Seath. That was pretty much the tipping point for me, realizing their boss design was still totally nuts.

The PC version is what they have been showing, which they claim will ultimately be set to a solid 60fps while the console versions will aim for 30 with no slowdown...we'll see.

Also they haven't been talking up the PC version more than to say that it is the lead platform this time around, and that they've attempted to up the graphical fidelity of the game. Seeing as how they've said the game is not being developed for the next generation systems I figure it will end up looking like a current gen game which will run better on PC with maybe another bell or whistle or two.

While it is a tad disappointing that they didn't take the full step into the next generation I think it looks nice from what I've seen (certainly an improvement over the first), and if the game keeps selling I'm sure we'll get there eventually.

I am looking forward to this so much. I 100% Dark Souls and working through Demon's Souls now. I'm really interested to see what they do with the story too.

Demon's Souls servers came back on a little while ago. Hell, just a few hours ago I was playing online with all the spirits and messages everywhere :)

Dark Souls was the only reason Skyrim or Saints Row wasn't my 2011 GOTY, so I'm excited.

At the same time I hope Miyazaki is working on another Souls game or something similar in the meantime.

Part of the fun of the Souls game is discovering all the secrets, so I hope this game has the same sense of adventure, especially if the online play improvements are true.

: Demon's souls is still well worth playing even if the servers are gone.

You won't get the world tendency stuff from other players and no invasions but the game is still fantastic without those parts.

i keep wondering why dark souls would willingly go into areas with such horrific things like that. it's like he has a unquenchable desire to die or something.

Well the director said the Dark Souls PC port was bad and that they will do it better this time around.

I was hyped since the trailer reveal several months ago and the hype can only go up from here (as long as they don't mess things up) so everyone get on the Hype Train!

Trailer is very misleading - there's not enough dudes dying.

So unbelievably pumped for it, especially with it being lead on the PC. I actually bought Dark Souls twice (PS3 and then the PC version) just because it is that good of a game. I've spent easily 300-400 hours in the game between PS3+PC.

Also for those worried that they are "Dumbing down" the game, apparently the making it more accessible quote was the developer saying they need to make the controls more obvious or something at the start, or to make it more obvious to players why such a difficult game is so good.

That and the IGN playthrough looks like dark souls.

Game Informer oversold the in-game graphics, it looks current generation but it looks good.

It's wierd, it's almost as if THEY the developers were pulling it back in a Demon's-like direction with what was said recently (more node-based), whereas before, it either from bad translating or bullshit PR/reporting, it sounded like dumbing down. Scared the shit out of me, where there should be no reason to.

Now the only ones to be scared are the dullard crybabies who demanded that that should happen out of bad attitude and schadenfruede! Their bitching and moaning will fall on deaf ears once more!

it was not a priority for dark souls and demon's still has not seen the glimpse of light known as PC at the end of the tunnel. I dont think it will change this time around. One can hope, but sadly I dont see FromSoftware changing their tactics as it has worked great so far. At least this time, maybe pc wont wait as long to come out?!? Either way Ill probably buy it on both ps3 and pc again as I love the series that much.

The whole concept of this one guy with the Boba Fett helmet being everywhere kinda scares me, but maybe it's like in Skyrim where that's the model of the character the player will be playing and not strictly an actual character.

The first game was one of my all time favourites and that looks Epic.

Demon Souls was the better game, and the better name, this title is all wrong.

Every time I hear dark souls mentioned, I hear the damn music in my head. I hope they change the systems like they did for dark souls from demon souls. I also would be pleased if it stayed as maddeningly hard as it is. If they do have to remove one thing, make it the stackable curses. Those can f*** off and die.

Give it to me! I need this! It's the only way I can feel anything. I own the last one on two platforms and have played both versions longer than any other game since Final Fantasy 6.

So happy it says PC so maybe, just maybe they'll launch on all platforms the same day.

I remember the first time I finished Demon's Souls. Great ending to a great game. So weird! I mean that last bit was really strange. I like how they weaved the feeling of a near-futile struggle into the atmosphere and story as well as just how the gameplay felt sometimes.

The Souls games are my favorite console RPG series ever.

60 fps on pc; 30 fps on consoles with no drops in framerate w/ new engine (I don't believe it, but that's what they're saying). Super excited. I skipped Dark Souls because I simply played too much Demon's Souls and needed a break from anything even similar, so I can't wait to get my feet soaked with souls again.

More motivation for me to actually get around to playing Dark Souls!

Now all that's left is for Durante to announce his day one HD patch and I'm buying this for sure.

@mikefightnight: From the looks of the trailer it might have started off as Dragon's Souls but Namco told them it had to be Dark Souls 2.

The 'Drop Stone Of Healing' instead of Estus in the game play footage makes me think it was something different but the director said Estus will be back so I'm confused.

@mikefightnight: Thats weird, I thought the first one was so engrossing right from the start. Well to each his own I suppose.

i'm really interested in seeing how this one shapes up. I played Demon's Souls and had no interest in it past the first area. I picked up Dark Souls and couldn't put it down. I think it was the whole overworld concept, I dunno but I loved it. So with this being Dark Souls 2 and not "insert grim word here" Souls, I wonder if it will feel like DLC or a new game.

Best series of this generation.

I was talking to a dark souls friend. Told him even if they dumbed down the game, a dumbed down amazing dark souls just turns into really good dark souls. Gonna buy it no matter what. Still hoping they have trailers like the one for dark souls. I want a trailer that really shows the despair and hopelessness like the release trailer for the first one.

These games are the shit. Supposedly they are 'westernizing' it a bit in the sense the systems won't be so confusing and a bit more spelled out, I just hope they don't take things too far, I do like some mystery.
