DiRT Rally Adding FIA World Rallycross Cars and Tracks

I just realized I haven't played much of this since we did that first Unfinished. I should probably fix that.

Bought the game a while ago. I still don't understand the indecipherable gibberish my co-pilot(?) is saying to me. I get left turn right turn, but what do the numbers mean?

I think they indicate the severity of the turn.

Game is excellent. Best driving I have ever played

@harabec: so a Right 1 60 would mean you have a right turn sharpness 1 and then 60 meters after the turn until the next thing. The turn sharpness is a scale from 1 - 6 with 6 being the sharpest. The rest of the stuff is self explanitory. Don't cut (don't go inside the turn). Obstacle outside (outside of the turn is a hard object). 1 tightens to 4 (turn starts at a 1 and gets sharper to a 4)

1 is the sharpest turn, actually. Other than hairpins and acute corners of course.

@harabec:There is a blog written by the chief game designer of the game on the official codemasters blog explaining the co-driver calls. But here is what you need to know.

Anyway, I really love this game.

They are pacenotes. There's actually a decent description for it all on Wikipedia.

You'd be surprised how much your performance increases when you understand pacenotes.

As for the game getting Rallycross, this is awesome news! I've been loving the game since I got it. They really caught the vibe of the first game, which I loved dearly. The lack of Mountain Dew and Doritos with the loudness from the second and third game is most welcome.

They said in a blog post that the AI is gonna be kind a dumb at first and they're gonna change it based on player lap times and general feedback.

The single digit numbers(usually 1-6) are the severity of the turn. 1 meaning the sharpest turn and 6 being the slightest. The double and triple digit numbers usually mean you are coming onto a straight stretch and they represent the length of the straight.

This game just keeps getting better and better. Quite excited for this. Keep in mind they have new content scheduled for each month. There will be at least a couple more rallies added (one being Finland) and an update that adds more cars.

FINALLY! I bought this game early access after the unfinished, which I had dismissed as a mistake after realizing the sheer lack of content. I think it has potential to be the ultimate rally game though and am excited to finally get some simultaneous competition modes.

Early Access is kind of a cool thing that allows games to get better in value as time goes on, and puts the control of purchase into the consumer. If the points on the graph where the content justifies the price meet, or if the consumer purchases something with the promise of more content as a sign of goodwill, then it becomes a better relationship between the developers and consumers rather than this weird, almost parasitic pre-order/season pass cycle that most big-budget games keep getting stuck in. I'm for it, well, for as long as they type of game makes sense.

It's the severity of each turn.

Check it:

No Caption Provided

Don't Cut: Don't cut the corner because there are hazards that could cripple your car.

Dip: The road dips, slight caution as it could upset the car and spin you.

Jump: Jump.

Jump maybe: Jump maybe.

Linking all of the corners together are distances. “Into” and “And” are very small distances between corners, we then use even numbers up to 100 metres and odd numbers once we go over the 100 metre mark.

@voodoopc: I hope they don't. This is supposed to focus on the rally discipline. It's supposed to be for the hardcore rally enthusiast and be the best of those games that it can possibly be. That other stuff just distracts and detracts.

If they do I hope they introduce them as maturely as they have done everything else. (i.e. no like "hardcore" monster energy Gymkhana stuff)

But, if you are interested (I know its not entirely the same thing) Reiza Studios will be adding V8 SuperTrucks to Stock Car Extreme as part of a recent crowd funding event that they did.

If you are into simracing I would be sure to check them out as they are one of the most respected developers in that community, alongside Kunos, Papyrus(iRacing), and ISI.

Tried this new content out, it's alright. The rallycross cars are pretty fun and easy to drive, but I'm somewhat disappointed with the tracks. There's 2 of them (with a third coming in a future content pack), each with 3 layouts, the simplest being a 20 second lap oval basically.

Stage content has so far been Dirt Rally's weak point. They say 12 stages per environment, but it's actually 2 long stages, 4 short ones made by splitting them in half, and then the reverse versions of those 6.

Supposedly, they're hand crafted based on real rally stages, but if I can get twice as many 'made up' stages I'd be happy. Also you'd think once you'd made the assets for an environment, making new stages should take much less work.

Rallycross sucks. Really disappointed that they're adding it. I'd much rather they kept this a pure rally game and put the effort in to more stage environments instead.

Actually, it's the other way around. The numbers generally correspond to the gear one should be in to take the turn. So for a 1 it's advised to be in first gear to take the turn, while a 6 means you can floor it through the turn in sixth gear or higher.

Obviously these pace notes aren't an exact science as there are different factors at play such as the setup of your car and your skill level. But the car setup especially is something you shouldn't worry about until you feel confident enough with your skill level.
