E3 2014: Will Uncharted 4: A Thief's End Be Drake's Last Adventure?

No funny one liners here. Times are tough for Drake it seems.

Anybody else see a more than passing resemblance to Nathan Fillion this time around?

No?

Ok. I'll just be over here with my wishful thinking then.

Yeah, he could pass off as a CGI Nathan Fillion for sure.

they should of waited longer to release tlou finish the uncharted series before tlou came out this game still looks amazing and i defo would be getting it but i feel naughty dog rushed the last of us they had it in mind to do the game on ps4 before they released the ps3 version if they started on uncharted 4 when they were doing last of us then we would of had this game and then boom a new ip for naughty dog joel and ellie for 2015 would of saved them for thinking of a new ip after uncharted 4 makes me wonder though if they can make drake look realistic then what is joel gonna look like in the last of us 2 or even ellie.

also i wonder whats gonna happen to drake i wondering is he gonna die or his he gonna retire from all of it i would rather see a happy ending for drake Elena and their kids rather then see him die i think sully is defo gonna die in this one or is already dead which is sad but if drake or sully die so does the uncharted series as i cant see them making one without either of them

My only concern is that it'll do what Infamous did: Amazing graphical fidelity, but a huge dip in gameplay ambition.

Infamous 2 had giant battles with guys everywhere, huge monsters, a bunch of variety, and a large sense of scale. Second Son seemed like a much smaller, focused game. That's not necessarily a bad thing, of course, but it felt far less impressive on the gameplay side.

As for Uncharted, it made its name on performances and insane set pieces. I'm wondering if they'll be able to match a sinking ship at this level of fidelity. I'm still at the stage in this generation where I just want to be wowed, superficial as it may be.

If they can, I'll give a War Pigs-esque "Oh lord, yeah!"

I just finished Second Son and I agree with your breakdown here. Although I liked Second Son quite a bit, there was quite a dip in gameplay. Hopefully they can rekindle some of the magic from Uncharted 2 and 3 with even better visuals. As far as being darker, I don't necessarily need it but would be interested to see what they do with it if they go that route.

@csl316: In inFamous' case, it's not just that it felt "small," but also that it felt boring, copied-and-pasted, passionless. Just a rushed game for launch to get the inFamous brand out there to early adopters. I loved inFamous 1 and 2 and the Halloween DLC, but Second Son bored the shit out of me.

I don't think Uncharted 4 will have the same problem since it's not rushed. I just hope it's better than 3, which I really didn't like.

I still think Uncharted needs a better send off than what 3 gave us. It just felt like a rehash of 2 in a lot of ways and recycled too many awesome moments and didn't created enough of its own to make it feel unique. 3 did give us more Sully though which is always great. Tonely from this trailer, it does feel like it needs to be the very last one though. I didn't even play the first game and jumped straight in at 2 so I'm not burnt out on the series like a lot of others are. I do enjoy the puzzles and climbing aspects in the series a bit more than the shooty-shooty, bang-bang though which has been a problem as that happens to be the majority of the game so I hope they can balance that out. Even TLoU suffered from there being too much combat so maybe it's just a ND problem.

Kinda surprised and dissapointed we're going into another Uncharted game. I would have liked to see Naughty Dog move on, but there's not much you can do on that, I suppose. Here's hoping this IS the last game, or at least the last game with Drake in it. I've gotten kinda sick of this trend in gaming where franchises are stretched out regardless of whether it makes sense or not...

If anyone can pull it off, it is ND. I will always have faith in them... as long as Neil is there. Lol.

I've enjoyed the Uncharted series, but when 3 ended I was happy if it was done. I don't really want another Uncharted. I want Naughty Dog to tell new and different stories like they did with The Last of Us. I can't say when it comes out whether I'll bite or not down the line, though, I suppose.

I'm glad they are putting a pin in the series after this. It was nice that this games exists, but the story is done...or should be at least for Nate. All this use of the word 'end' makes me hopeful they will let the series stand for itself after this.

I would not mind more action adventure games from Naughty Dog; but I think they need a new story, a new thematic base, and a new character. They have done the lovable thief, I woudl like to see a police drama or maybe a spy adventure.

Ok. I'll just be over here with my wishful thinking then.

I was thinking more Pedro Pascal.

I think he looks more like Nolan North, which makes me think they might be doing facial capture for this.

I definitely see more Nolan North in his face now but it also reminds me of Jeremy Renner.

The cage closest to the camera in the final shot references this:

Elena better not be dead, and or they better not be separated again, because I can't handle them not being together again!

Nate's wearing a ring. I don't think they would do the same conflict twice.

I really like the tone. A Thief's End makes a lot of sense with the VO.

The sand deforming when he reaches for the gun is a really nice touch.

I am guessing that with Naughty Dog's success in tackling more serious material they are probably going to try and hit a tone that lies somewhere between Uncharted and The Last of Us.

I doubt that it'll be on a smaller scale like Second Son. This is Naughty Dog we are talking about, they have more of pedigree than Sucker Punch (not a sleight towards Sucker Punch). They also probably have more time than SP to develop their game seeing as InFamous: Second Son was within the launch window.

Yep. Second Son kind of felt like a launch title. But Naughty Dog is probably getting all the time and resources it'll ever need to top themselves.

I do hope for a finale to Drake's role in Uncharted but I really don't buy for a second that it's gonna go all grim.

Both Uncharted 2 & 3 debuted with a rather grim outlook on things, so I don't think this'll necessarily be indicative of a darker tone. Still, I'm disappointed to see that it looks to be yet another one of Nate's adventures, as I was hoping it may in fact star Sir Francis Drake instead. Though it does at least imply to have a lot of Sully on the side ala Uncharted 3. Given Nate's aged appearance, I can't wait to see just how haggard Sully must be looking.

Despite Uncharted 3 being supremely meh, I'm still curious all the same in seeing more of this 'un. Though I'll hafta make sure not to watch as many of its trailers, lest I potentially have like all of its set-pieces spoiled.

Also, it's strange to see how much Nate now resembles a cross between Nathan Fillion and Chuck Greene.

EDIT: The writing on that cage before the trailer cuts apparently states ''For we receive the due reward of our deeds''. Which... huh, maybe it'll actually deliver on the false promises of Uncharted 3's story giving Nate's actions a little more consequence.
