E3 2016: Get Your Heart Racing with Thumper

This looks cool!

I need this in my face.

The visuals are great, but this looks like it's basically just a rhythm game/endless runner mash-up.

Can't really tell what any of that was.

Hell yeah I'm gonna buy a game made by one of the dudes from Lightning Bolt, you betcha.

Looks awesome I just don't know how much mileage you can get out of this on-rails type of experience unless it is like $15. Although recently the trend has been bucking for indie games to be $20+ rather than somewhere in the $15 range.

Yep, this shit has been absolutely excruciating lately and one of the most disingenuous things a person could say about a game.

It definitely looks like one of those games that you stop playing and immediately realise you haven't blinked for 10 straight minutes. People playing this in VR will absolutely fall over.

"Thumper" is a really, really great name.

I understand that the bandwidth costs will be big because of the jump from 720p to 1080p but man I'm about to reach my limit of watching videos and getting distracted by the disgusting compression that takes away any impact of games that have strong visual effects like this one. 1080p streaming can't come soon enough.

@humanity: looks like it will likely focus on a score-challenge kind of thing that gets more intense but harder the further you go, like that one mode in Wipeout

@colourful_hippie: You're right, this video didn't look very sharp, but increasing the resolution 1080p wouldn't actually make it look any better (and would actually end up looking worse at the same bitrate). High motion videos like this need a higher bitrate, not a higher resolution. Giant Bomb encodes their HD videos at 4000 kbps which looks great for most games, but struggles with the intense color and motion that Thumper brings. An extra bump up to 5000 or 6000 would make this look fine even at a humble 720p resolution.

Your definition of "disgusting" is kind of crazy to me.

@billyok: That's what happens when one of your most used screens is a 1440p monitor with 1080p being the lowest resolution I look at on any other screen.
