@voidburger You were not slow-rolling anymore! The weight stats will show you if you're heavy/medium/light, maybe you've upgraded your strength since you tried that mace and now you can use it without any issue.

Anyway just wanted to help. Cheese away, don't listen to the gatekeepers, Souls games are obtuse and can be difficult but (except Sekiro) they don't ask for perfect reflexes, so it's more about preparation than anything else. I hate how the discourse drove people away from them, with patience they're and a willingness to look for tips when needed, those games are far from impossible.

I'm glad Jason's love of the Kirkhammer endures after all these years.

Argh, crab broke my knife!

I forgot about the water cooler nature of these games feeling like death stranding with the way people help each other in the first few weeks leaving notes and stuff. I turned around on the criticisms that the series if open world should include ease of use stuff we built over the years even if I enjoy that it does not. I think the game as a whole just isn't that normal game we're used to even though on paper it is...hard BOTW as people put it. I think it's its own beast and that's what we've asked for right. A game that's different, somehow I think people mean they want familiar, not different when asking for truly out their sequels. Like always changing a series or sequel too much makes it not really a sequel.

This was really fun! I would love to see more. It's sad at how much gatekeeping and backseat gaming is in the Souls community. I'm glad she's decided to ignore people like that and try to embrace the quirks of this great series. There's a lot of great in the community, too, like discovering and figuring out everything the game has to offer together. One of the joys of the series is feeling like you're discovering a world with like-minded people. Also, cheesing is always a valid strategy!

Helpful tip if you hold triangle and press R1 while on horseback you switch to your off-hand weapon wich would be your staff allowing you to fire off spells from Torrent!

The Jess and Jason combo was SO good. Looking forward to more of these. If Jan's in too then even better.

I'm one of those people who has tried every one of these games (except for demon souls) and never stuck to any of them. I beat like first 4-5 bosses and just got frustrated and quit after it. I feel like this is the one I'm gonna actually finish, since the difficulty curve seems a little less sharp. Because there's so many bosses there's also lots of easy bosses at the start of the game. Those starting bosses really help learning the game's mechanics.

@julmajuuhan: Also a lot of the dungeons seem fairly short compared to how it used to be and it seems like there's a bonfire near almost every bossfight. The amount of running through enemies and dodging their attacks in order to fight the boss is a lot lower. It's much easier to repeatedly fight the bosses over and over again, when there's no 3 minute walk to the boss. It's really neat.

it continues to impress me how different everyone is playing this game im about 17 hours and i just barley started going the directions jess starts at hell i dont even have the map for the south yet

I've never played any of the Souls games. This seems like a good jumping in point, but the size of the game is really unappealing to me. Sekiro has the setting and art style that appeals to me most, but seems to be something slightly different. Maybe I should just get Bloodbourne as it's dirt cheap on the PSN store.

More of Jess playin' Elden Ring pls!

This was so much fun! Jess and Jason are a great pairing. Really funny together. I know Jess said she's already 11 hours in, and I know sometimes a game can be less fun when you have to play it in front of people, but a Jess + Jason Elden Ring Endurance Run (ER-ER) would sure be a pleasure.

Funny enough, I'm at about the same level and playtime as Jess in this but a good 75% of everything in this video was stuff I've yet to discover! Loving Elden Ring so far

I'm envious of Jess' character creating abilities. Even with the improved character generator, the best I can manage is making a long-lost hillbilly relative version of myself.

I've played for 37 hours, making progress the entire time, unlocked half the map and I have never heard of Jarburg until now...

I chuckled when Jess was worried an enemy was about to blow up, because that's the type of shit FromSoftware would do/has done. Good BS instincts, Jess!

@chrisflavin: Bloodborne is great even though it's got a few tough bosses. I could nitpick about needing to grind for items, bullets and health vials aren't automatically refilled like other Souls games. Sekiro is a slog by comparison and I wouldn't recommend it.

I think even if you don't get anywhere close to finishing Elden Ring, it's an absolute joy to just scrounge around. The bosses I've faced so far have all been easy except for one (I just decided to explore more before going back) and because a lot of them are in world, you can run away if you don't feel ready. Definitely the easiest of the series to have fun with, especially for new people.

It's kind of unfortunate because the games are obtuse so you almost need to play at least one Dark Souls game loosely with a guide to learn all the lessons or necessary information for the other games. There are items and mechanics that make it way easier but it's tough to learn what those things are unless you like to poke around or try new things.

Well, it's finally happened. I've had no urge to get any of the new consoles but this game is making me seriously want a PS5 right now.

@voidburger there's an option in the menu to "show helmet." toggle it off and you can show your enemies your angry face in battle.

This is completely anecdotal of course but I've found that the whole "git gud" schtick is mostly thrown out when people whine about the game being cheap and unfair and that the community is mostly helpful when people ask for real advice on bosses or how to build and gear their character. That being said I'm sure there are plenty of shitheels in the community since all games seem to have that problem these days. But yeah if its in the game (summons, magic, etc) it's totally legit and valid.

Between your fresh perspective, Jeff sounding excited to get into this, and the vets of the franchise Jan and Jason I'm really looking forward to hearing your discussions later on in the year and especially GOTY time.

I've been playing this nonstop. Imagine a game so good that it's too good.

While I thoroughly enjoy Danny perhaps have Jess and Tam do Bourne to Run. She's playing similar to how I am and just exploring the world. I'm almost 20 hours in and have not done much.
