hey!

You son of a bitch! Well done.

dammit

Edit: since you are kinda reading these, for the love of god, look at the world maps, and just go to places you haven't landed, like islands.

Woo! Keep that train rolling!

So I've learned that nothing, in fact, stops the Endurance Run. This poses a threat to national security.

EDIT: Alright, honesty time: who was not surprised at all that they didn't end up saving Lara? *hand*

Not belittling them, mind; I fucked it up when I first played the game. I didn't realise that it wanted actual player input, just like Ryan didn't, and it only gives you enough time to try it once, unfortunately.

I'm ready for some genuine Endurance Fun!

Posted by Kiro_LeMark

I just have to say it.

Can't you just keep pressing down on the Equip screen to get equipment from the characters not currently in your party?

Hopefully in the future, switching characters will be the FIRST thing they try instead of the last.

Edit: I like how Patrick tries to take credit for thinking to change characters are the end of the video when it was pretty obviously Ryan.

I love when they say: "We must be missing something.".

Posted by jws

Man this is tough watching an Endurance run for a game I have already played (a lot.) Watching Ryan and Patrick stumble around trying to figure out stuff is painful. I never had this issue with previous endurance runs since those were games I had not played.

The future taught em how to input passwords, but it's easy to forget the first time through. I remember I didn't save her legs til my second playthrough

Posted by NowSayPillow

I thought you could save Bucca's Mom by hitting L, A, R, and A. Did they miss the prompt or is that how it always plays out?

Posted by Greeny83

They put the gold stud on Brono!

PRAISE BE TO BOD!

@NowSayPillow: You can. But most people on their first playthrough would expect the game to bring up a text input, and the time limit is VERY short.

Yep.

Ugh. That sidequest is so...just completely unfair.

The solution to it?

When the game prompts you to enter the password, hit L, A, R, A on the controller.

Kind of a cheap punch for the game to throw at you, huh?

Edited by cornwalliz

As soon as they tooked Bobo out, I laughed so hard.

Posted by mrfluke

Haters. can suck it Patrick Klepek is awesome, Ryan Davis is a fucking dumbass Alright that's a bit harsh, but yo keep Ryan away from JRPGS and RPGS with meaningful stories First 10mins were real holy shit revelations (thanks to Patrick for reading the comments) But as soon as they swapped bobo I was like GODDAMMIT (sadly thanks to Patrick ) To their credit if u didn't catch on to the fact that bobo can live long in the beginning then uill get lost And I totally didn't know u can save buccas mom on my play through

Posted by mrfluke

Make sure guys for that sun stone quest u will have to jump between times a lot, And keep the red vest in mind for the oncoming fight And once your done with the sun stone quest, go. Visit melichor

It kinda is, but I think the developers MEANT for you to fail it the first time. If you missed that cutscene by getting it right the first time, it wouldn't be as rewarding when you finally got it right.

they left their status hat on barle :/ and poor buccas mum , didn't really expect them to get it tho , forgot how unforgiving that part is , still holding out hope on them finding where to start the sun stone quest .

im wondering how detached ryan is from the plot by now , with the sidequests and all , will they go to the black omen or randomly decide to fight lavos directly hmnzz

Posted by mrfluke

And lastly when doing the cyrus quest again, have brog and barle I'm really liking this ER, not liking watching u guys stumble around for 30-40mins u guys. Can potentially be done this week with the game

Posted by vince_kupo

wow that was good, just sad they couldn't figure out the password, but whatever, I enjoyed it

Wha... how... no. Hallelujah!

Very impressed with their 2nd run at Retinite.

Posted by Medrex

Poor Lara. You know this game does a lot of handholding and hinting as to what you should do in a situation so when something like that comes along it feels twice as harsh.

Posted by bslayer

Wow, I didn't even know you could fail at that part with Bucca's mom. It's too bad, if you save her (by pressing L-A-R-A on the controller) her mom is all walking around.

Posted by Simplexity

Thank heavenly jesus they started using the double healing techs and put the gold stud on Brono, finally logic prevails.

Posted by MannySavior

The moment Patrick said to swap out Bobo for Barle, I cracked up. You guys know this probably wouldn't have happened if people here didn't cry about them not using other characters right? It's pretty much pointless to level up characters other than the ones they've been using at this point. Even if they plan on doing the New Game + developer ending by beating the last boss at the start, Barle is not necessary to win that fight. She'll probably go down in one hit even if they keep her in the party from now until the end.

Posted by Bread_Harrity

So, what we're seeing here are two guys that are used to modern roleplaying games like Skyrim where the NPCs actually react to a huge in-game accomplishments that your characters make (to a degree, I know).

These old rpgs always did leave much to be desired as far as npc reactions, seeing this just makes me realize how much of it is senseless. Why wouldn't people remember a group of adventurers that slew great beasts from the past? I realize that the Endurance Run is frustrating to veteran Chronotrigger players but in the defense of Ryan and Patrick, this stuff is very confusing in the context of how modern rpgs handle things. That is what they're used to.

Posted by CaptainInvictus

They cocked up the Lara thing but whatever, fuck it! It was a good episode. Even the bumbling about was funny because I kept skipping ahead and they were STILL at it.

Posted by MaxLazarus

god I love these. Any estimate of how many episodes are still to come?

Posted by agemyth

This game just got DEEP. If only it did not play like a JRPG. At least I have the Endurance Run to endure for me.

Posted by Ciao

Hopefully they figure out the Sun Stone quest to get Brono's ultimate weapon.

Endurance Runs are not about speed runs or optimal play throughs dude. The only reason they even chose this JRPG is because it does not hate the player as much as typical JRPGs of the time. Calling Ryan a "fucking dumbass" gives the guys reason to not do Endurance Runs.

Endurance Runs are not carefully planned and well timed tours of videogames. They are mostly about blindly stumbling through games similarly to how a real unspoiled play through would be.

LARA. L A R A

You already did this before. Still the timing to figure out how that one works is really punishing.

@Macromachine said:

There should probably be two or three more episodes of these "sidequests," followed by one or two more episodes featuring the final bosses, so I expect it to be over by the middle of next week, sadly.

What happens if they save Lara?

Posted by igloochan

I can't believe they swapped out Bobo for no reason right before they needed him to finish the quest.

Posted by jubatron

Playing through the DS version, I'm very sympathetic to Patrick and Ryan regarding the translations. Even if Bobo isn't in your party when you talk to Fiona, it is much clearer that you need someone else who can live for a very long time. That's been a recurring theme watching this SNES version.

The music in this game is SOOOO f'ing great!

"six months". what?

that seems like a terrible way to play a game!
