Finally, Lightning Returns to Final Fantasy XIV, and... Wait, What?

This trailer just reminded me that i really like ff13's music. Just not the game :(

I'm just gonna put it out there, I really couldn't give a damn about Lightning, she's one of the most unrelatable and linear characters in the FF series.

Then there's that. It amazes me how hard Square is trying to force Lightning down our throats. It's almost like they're trying to convince us that FFXIII wasn't shit instead of just moving on the way a good company would.

I like Lightning's look and the way she moves and attacks in battle. As a character I didn't feel very strongly one way or another, which I suppose is better than I felt about most of FF13's cast. If I was playing FF14, I'd probably be looking forward to this. Having everyone run around dressed as Lightning is a little silly though.

I stopped taking Final Fantasy seriously after I realised how much better Atlus are at making RPGs.

Even 7 isn't that good, never really was either.

I think adding actual characters is a good move... and I like Lightening!

Its going to be an a couple of story content missions where you run into lightning and help her on some quest at the end of it females get Lightning Clothes and Males get Snows clothes from XIII. I think they'll also be giving you a weapon for each class upon completion in a XIII style design.

its kinda cool thats she's hopping around to this different dimension that kinda fits in with whats going on with her in her own game universe

I think Lightning is a great character. She's endearing because she continues to fight even when the rest of the world has given up hope. In 13, as all of you well know if you finished the game, each character goes through their own independent inner struggle and come out the other end a changed person from what they were when they started the game. Lightning a favorite of mine probably because I controlled her for most of the game, but she is tough as nails... the ultimate protector.

Okay, you have a great franchise that, even if it's had some bumps in the road, has great universes and amazing characters, creatures, and fiction, and the character you choose to pimp out the most is.. Lightning? Main character from one of the most middling Final Fantasy games ever made? Star of the upcoming sequel most people have no desire for? Great.

That settles it - Square Enix is the new Nintendo, incapable of doing anything other than fanservice.

The story of this MMO better be just be the Planescape of The Final Fantasy universe. That would make all this fan service make since.

Man... I'm way more pumped for Snow's outfit than Lightning's. Possibly because he isn't as fucking bland as her. I wouldn't say I like him, but he was amusing at times.

I'd imagine she's a quest giver or something like that, maybe NPC Mercenary (if FFXIV has such things, was a pretty big part of the Guild Wars games at least)?

I misread the title as "Lightning returns to Final Fantasy XV" Not that I'd be surprised.

Fanservice the MMO. They do seem to be doing a decent job at generating interest in their game. Most non-MMO news sites tend to ignore MMO news a month after release unless something huge happens.

She's gonna have her own FATE. I'm going to guess the FATE will reward some kind of currency that will allow you to buy the outfit.

Its so blatantly obvious that they want Lightning to be the new Cloud and be the new face for Final Fantasy but people want no parts of that. I even like Lightning but she's got her hand in all the modern Final Fantasy games.

Light is one of my favorite characters in the Final Fantasy Universe so I'm glad to see they continue to have affinity for her. She's also insanely popular in Japan which is why she does keep showing up so much.

Right now you can only have your chocobo follow you around as a fighting companion, but they said that there would be more coming in the next update. so my guess is that she will be an unlockable companion, and there will be an addition option to buy her outfit from the import vendors in the main towns. That's just my guess though. This trailer was frankly a pile of hot bullshit so who the fuck knows.

And as someone who is regularly playing XIV i'm definitely not looking forward to 50 lightnings running around behind people in town. this is sooo dumb.

Yeah, she's pretty much the only good character they've ever had in the franchise. I mean, I loved FF1-6, but that wasn't really for the characters. I could maybe go as far as saying the pirate captain in FF5 was pretty OK, memorable if nothing else, but other than that most characters throughout the series have just been flat, and mostly communicating entirely through "..." or weird, exaggerated emotes. That said, they're going a bit far with this.

So, what is she in the game? I figured she would just be an NPC that would join you on some quests, but at the end it looked like Lighting will be a player class?

Some of the fan-service of FFXIV is a bit much, though I think I'm finally getting used to it. If they're using the game as a love-letter to every Final Fantasy, I think I can be down with that. I think I've seen references to nearly every last Final Fantasy so far (there's actually a remix of an FF2j soundtrack in there, and it's fantastic).

So do you help her in a raid dungeon and then you get her scarf?

Well, I mean, Lightning and fleshlights seem to have about the same amount of personality. Also, there's a Bon Jovi joke in here somewhere but it's not coming to me.
