Here's a Full 4v1 Match in Evolve

Hearing Ayesee commentate this immediately killed my interest in watching this video, I'd rather just watch gameplay than have someone feign excitement and just tell me what I'm watching.

My interest in this has gone up with this video. My concern is the longevity of the game, but also now that the human seem to be able to take a lot of damage? The one player who got knocked out did so from an environmental hazard; the guys getting attacked by the beast seemed to be able to shrug it off.

That's part of a normal match-flow. The monster is at its weakest early in the match, but as it kills and eats animals it grows stronger and stronger. This is why the monster spends most of the early game trying to run away or hide, and also why there is an entire class dedicated to trying to keep the monster in place.

This game looks like it could be a lot of fun. I don't have a problem with a game being marketed towards the esports crowd that's a totally viable market, I just don't know if this is the right game for that. Not sure if the asynchronous mp clicks with me as something I'd wanna watch.

A game should be included as an Esports if the community actually chooses that path. It's so cringeworthy when the developers decide to make a cool ESPORTS game. Anyone remember Shootmania? Anyone? Just make a game thats fun to play.

Love or hate the commentary if all it takes for something to be "E-SPORTS!!!" is someone talking over a game that doesn't sound like a video game developer then I don't know what to say to any of you.

Interested in finding out what this game is, but I don't care what type of game it is, people commentating a video game match is frigging ridiculous. No thanks.

@uberjannie: On the other hand, the original L4D maps are the only ones worth playing, and most of L4D2's additions are horrible.

Turtle Rock knows how to balance things, Valve doesn't. They also have an eye for design and map flow that Valve doesn't.

This is basically Giant: Citizen Kabutos multiplayer made into its own game with more classes? That game was amazing in multiplayer, so much fun chasing that giant, or being the giant, either way.

I love Left 4 Dead, Payday and Syndicate... but I am not sold on this at all!

The monster seems under-powered. Maybe it's from the part when he jumped a guy and just beat the living crap out of him and then the character was just stunned (I forget how the commentator said it at that time).

The monster looked kinda disproportionately weak compared to the hunters up until the last couple minutes.

I love how everyone's freaking out over a video with e-sports like commentary over it like it's gonna be ran over every game you play.

Man, the game itself looks really cool and like something I'd want to play, but god damn that E-sports commentary made the game feel so shallow and soulless. I don't understand the need for every competitive multiplayer game to be pushed as E-sports. Can't a multiplayer game just be a fun thing friends can play together? Why do I need someone with a fake "sports caster" voice feign excitement and explain pretty obvious stuff that's going on.

This is a really good point! I don't understand how this would be an esport at all.

The asynchronous style the teams would have to use means that you would never have all five players on at the same time. Would you then be broadcasting lone dudes who just play the monster? Teams of hunters you're supposed to follow? It's neither the 1-1 tension of a fighting game nor the team tactics of a moba or shooter.

I really wish they'd focused on have really great moments and stories rather than trying to make a competitive focused game that doesn't match the core concept. Also, how many maps are there?

Did they really need to shoutcast this game? It's like it's jumping up and down, trying to convince people that it's esports.

That's a valid point looking at it from what we've seen here, but plenty of pro teams have 5 starters (thinking LoL here) and you could easily have teams with someone that "mains" Goliath and 4 people for the respective human roles, they just happen to not all play concurrently. I'm not saying it's likely, but it's not that far a stretch from what currently exists.

Managed to play it at the gadget show UK a couple of weeks ago. I was the monster and won a bit too easily I thought, and speaking to couple of other people who played as the monster they found the same. I guess it will take a little learning to play as the four human classes, but wasn't blown away. It was only one game, so I definitely need to play it more to get a better idea of its depth but feel it's getting too much hype.... That's the way it goes I suppose.

I feel like I don't want to buy this on principle just for the awful fucking commentary. Fuck off with that shit. Stop trying to make everything E-Sports.

Anyways I dunno it seems cool I guess, but this is a game that will really be determined by balance and if they don't nail that between the monster and the hunters this game is fucked.

This game looks fucking rad, but some of that commentary was real hard to listen to.

It looks like it might be fun, but this is coming out around the same time as Destiny, right? I'm pretty sure my time and money will go to Destiny.

Game looks fun but if they're trying to take this into eSports I'm disinterested. 4v1 also makes it impossible to be a successful eSport title.

I'm remaining cautiously optimistic but as of now it looks quite interesting.

At least this is engaging to watch without any knowledge of the deeper mechanics and systems, the majority of e-sports doesn't appeal to me because I don't play DOTA or Starcraft and don't have time to figure out what makes the high level strategy interesting. I really enjoyed Tribes: Ascent as an e-sport, before it basically dissolved, because the skill of the players was obvious on the surface level. Not that these players seem especially skilled, and the whole staged vibe is difficult to ignore, but I would watch this, with a proper commentator.

My experience with this at PAX East is kinda back-and-forth in my head. On one hand I really like the idea, style, and generally how it plays (although I only played the medic), on the other hand it seems like a game that can be not very fun when you're learning.

My match consisted of the four of us hunters searching for the monster around the map for about 10 minutes not finding him, and once we did he ran away again. Then once the monster had maxed his level he proceeded to mop the floor with us very quickly.

I can see myself liking this game, and complaining about balance in a pre-release version of a game is silly thing, but man did it feel one sided (and maybe it should be?)

While I was waiting in line they brought back four players that had been killing the monsters in their games consistently so they could face a developer controlling the monster. While the hunters fought the monster for a long time, almost non-stop fighting during the "final battle", they did end up losing. I didn't see any hunters win their match my whole time at PAX East.

so far this looks like something I would want to play with friends. The design seems like it could get really repetitious. I can just see the matches a few months past release. Hardcore players will just drop the Goliath in minutes and the game is over. Balancing will be pretty important to make this something I would continue to come back to.

I don't like how they're making it look like an esport. Stick to Dota, Aysee!
