Here's What This Year's Call of Duty Multiplayer Looks Like

Team killstreaks, double jumping exosuits, and all kinds of other future-type business look to set this year's Call of Duty apart from the previous entries.

This is the first call of duty game that I am excited for since MW2. I mainly get these games for single player though, hopefully this one has a decent one that is longer than 5 hours

@nethlem: Easy tiger,

Read my comment again, I'm not sure what you thought I meant but more mobility, double jumping, air to ground attacks and jet packs firmly peg this as a similar approach to multiplayer shooting as Titanfall.

The difference being this looks like it might be better balanced and a little more varied. Titanfall wasn't what everyone wanted it to be. This looks better than run of the mill Call of Duty and the comparison is valid.

The look of this excites me, the look of Titanfall doesn't.

What more is there to say?

Black Ops 2 was real real good, so if it is that with SciFi shit I am all in because unlike Titanfall I know a CoD will have some meat to it, and hopefully the SP campaign is great and they have a Bunch of challenge maps.

That was actually rather impressive. Looked really fun, fast and daft. I mean, I'd still be terrible at it, but this has actually made me interested in CoD multiplayer for the first time in a while.

I'm all for this trend of increased-mobility in first person shooters. I enjoyed the realistic period, but it's high time those games were blended with the freedom of movement that more classic 'arcadey' shooters of yesteryear offered. Seems like Titanfall might have helped usher in a new series of neat shooters.

Also this is looking waaay more promising than the Ghosts multiplayer reveal - that ended up being the first CoD in years that I didn't buy, but perhaps they'll sell me on this one. I did say when Titanfall came out that I'd like a game with that level of mobility but without the Titan mechanic, and I never completely fell out of love with CoD so much as tired of its mechanics somewhat. If this manages to freshen things up, I'll absolutely give it a shot.

Seems like they're just as lackadaisical about their Danger Close as ever with those drone missile attacks - although I'm all for a controllable Ion Cannon, so that's cool.

Good lord the tsunami looked horrible! In fact, most of the visuals in this seemed pretty damn crappy. I guess it's the constant issue of creating a game for last-gen and current-gen systems. :/

Man, they're really going for it this year, huh? I'm excited.

I mean, for the first time since like, Modern Warfare 2, it seems like they're just wildly introducing every crazy idea they could think of, regardless of whether it might break the game completely.

That's great.

I am a little concerned about the apparent move toward random "loot drop" unlocks though, as it almost certainly means more F2P-style hooks to go along with it.

(Also, how weird is it that CoD, the series that takes place on Earth and always claims to be based on the real-life military, now appears to have crazier future-guns in it than Titanfall? I'm not sure what that means.)

I kind of feel bad for the guys at Respawn because everyone had these amazing hopes for the fathers of Call of Duty to come and revolutionize the FPS genre and here comes another Call of Duty and it looks to do everything Titanfall did but better and flashier.

Compared to Titanfall this looks awfully stiff. The guys at Respawn obviously put a lot of time and effort into making sure the movement in their game felt smooth and well paced; this just looks like a lazy attempt to add some verticality to an otherwise boring formula. In fact, if you throw in the map hazards (taken from Battlefield) and the nanosuit-like stuff (taken from Crysis) you've basically got a game that's trying to compete with all of the competition but doesn't actually doing anything better or unique.

I think making it slower than Titanfall is a good thing. A few people have said in this thread that one of the best things about CoD, and the reason it's so successful, is that's it's very dependable, with yearly releases tweaking it slightly. Sometimes pushing it forward, sometimes sideways, very rarely backwards. The unique thing you think they're missing is, in my opinion, the CoD gameplay. It's still there. Had they fully adopted a faster gameplay style, then that's turning the franchise on it's head. Bad for business because that's not what their core fans want. This adopts a good middle ground with the verticality reminiscent of Titanfall, while maintaining the traditional CoD feel. Honestly, we'll have to see how lazy it is when the game comes out. But at first glance it doesn't seem lazy to me, it seems like they've got it right where they want it.

@icyeyes: I'm guessing sledgehammer/ activision PR just sent @jeff the same video as the one they put up on youtube.

I seriously don't think he would take the time to take a video off youtube to put on Giantbomb, no matter how minimal the effort.

So the best parts of the combat in Titanfall was the on foot stuff. This seems to be taking that approach to some degree with more variety, (I assume) better balance and added a splash of colour. This actually looks exciting, like something worth playing.

Cool.

Uhm what?
This has no wallrunning, it looks really slow and clunky compared to Titanfall "on foot stuff", which plays extremely fluid and dynamic.

After having gotten back into Titanfall, this trailer did pretty much nothing for me, not a single thing okay i guess the player model customization looked kinda neat.

But besides that most stuff actually looked pretty bad: Movement looks slow and clunky, like the player being glued to the ground, the jump jets also look very clunky, at least compared to the fluid jetpack movement in Titanfall.

The action also feels extremely underwhelming, even for being a choreographed kill run where people just jump into the players crosshairs. I don't really know if i ever want to go back to playing a MP FPS game where no NPC's (or a large number of players) are involved, just way less fun with so little action going on.

Yes they throw some "Titfanfally" stuff in, like killstreak mechs, but that also feels like a step back compared to Titans in Titanfall, which essentially replace the whole "killstreak" bullshit with an actual meta game ontop the "on foot" gameplay.. Sorry, nope not going back to having only bullshit killstreaks, when i can customize my own damn mech and drop it on some fools head!

Guess Call of Duty is now finally dead for me, not that big of an surprise, considering that besides CoD4 only the Black Ops game got me interested enough to dip back into the franchise.

I didn't really care for the future stuff in Black Ops 2. The pick 10 system was great, and it was a good entry after MW3 (which I think is my least favorite CoD MP) but it really could've embraced the future tech stuff more fully, or let it go completely. Mechanically, it was solid, but nothing too dramatic outside of the pick 10. Aesthetically, it was even less interesting than CoD games have been. It just didn't have it's own personality, very unlike MW, WaW, MW2, and BlOps. After finding myself uninterested from what I saw in Ghosts and decidedly turned off after its general reception, Advanced Warfare seems to be a good step forward.

So true. When CoD and BF first came out, it was cool to make fun of the sci-fi shooters. Halo is the only one that didn't go realistic (Oh wait I guess BF did as well). Now CoD is going back after Titanfall came out? Did Titanfall actually sell well? Haven't heard much about it since the first week of release.

I've never played CS, CoD or Halo and only dabbled a little in BF4 because it came free with my graphics card. The last shooter I really enjoyed (loved) was UT2k4. I had to watch this trailer twice because it was just that awesome. If the actual gameplay and especially the movement feels anything like this looked, I'll be all over this.

Looks good. I've been very selective on which Call of Duty games i buy, I liked Cod 4, MW2 and Black Ops 2, but Black ops 1 was crap and I had no interest in buying MW3 nor Ghosts.

I liked Titanfall but I feel like it didn't give you much freedom to play the way you wanted and still be able to win the match and become MVP. You have no choice but to jump into a Titan, use the best weapons and take Minion Detector so you can rack up the most points possible during the round. The Titans kind of ruin the game for me in that respect.

Advanced Warfare looks good but it sucks that they had to resort to copying some Titanfall elements to make the game (even though it makes it more appealing.)

As one of the few commenters who has been playing CoD continuously since CoD4 (my clan was #1 in Clan Wars for a while in Ghosts), I'm cautiously optimistic. On the surface, it seems much better than Ghosts, which was at best a sideways step in the franchise (with minor changes, and suffering from being a "split-gen" game that didn't take full advantage of the XB1/PS4's power). The movement changes are substantial when compared to previous games, but I doubt it will be nowhere near Titanfall (which went too far in terms of mobility, IMO; I much preferred the slower, more tactical, mech combat).

Going back to Black Ops 2's create-a-class system, and many of the same attachments/perks is a welcome return, as that game was my favourite since MW2 (which is nostalgically good today, but has aged badly in some respects). Unlike Ghosts, they're keeping with tried-and-true gamemodes, with the only absence at the moment being Demolition, plus the requisite gimmicky new modes (the Oddball equivalent, which highlights the mobility mechanics) and a spiritual successor to War from World at War (which has been a common request in CoD forums). On the other hand, there are some major changes to how things like grenades and streaks work (with the latter being customizable for the first time). So it's not as if this is just "Black Ops 2: HD, with double jumps!".

The standard complaint about CoD is that every year is "just more of the same". However, many hardcore CoD players, like myself, see it as a reliable core game that is tweaked and added-upon every year (similar to Madden/FIFA/etc., but much more substantially). While people looking from the outside might think it's still too similar to previous games, believe me that every seemingly minor difference (like, say, having weapons come from loot drops or how perks are categorized) can have huge effects on core game, as well as the metagame (both in public and competitive environments). So, if Advanced Warfare is taking Black Ops 2 as a base, then adding new features and tweaking existing systems (as well as more polished graphics, scripting, netcode, etc.), it's pretty much what a lot of serious CoD players were looking for.

That said, I'll be curious to see where Treyarch goes in 2015. It would be weird to do Black Ops 3, as Advanced Warfare is basically already that in terms of everything but plot. I'd actually be fine with a return to World War 2; sure, WW2 games were a cliche, but we haven't seen things like the Normandy landings rendered on current-gen consoles yet.

I was quite impressed by it to be completely honest, and I have played and or tried all MP of all the COD games since COD 1. It looks like a good combination of Crysis 2 (cloak), Blacklight: Retribution\Halo (with the visor thing) and the movement from Titanfall, on paper, and from the gameplay stuff I saw on youtube, it looks quite good, but, if there will be no "demo" "Beta" "Alpha" for it (which, at this point, there should not be one), I will probably will not pick it up, despite looking impressive on the mechanics and features side (while the visual engine looks horrendous, just like last' years title).

COD gets people excited because at its core its a ton of fun. However, I haven't found the last 3 or so games to be 60 bucks of fun. They're sticking to the formula and thats great for those where COD is their one game a year, but as someone who likes a variety of games, like many people on this site, there's no justification for buying it.

Now this is a damn fine trailer. As someone who cares very little for Call of Duty, FPS multiplayer, and really military FPS games in general, they've done a good job in making this game look surprisingly appealing. The sillier sci-fi angle they've added definitely goes a long way in parsing it from its predecessors.

I'd say they borrowed the Quake 3 move animations based on how much those guns were shaking during walking. Gun movement animations seem much more exaggerated than what you would see in a standard shooter today.

I personally think that all the Titanfall-esque copying here doesn't actually bring anything new to the game without having the actual Titans to balance it.

I mean, the point of the added agility of the pilots in Titanfall is to counter the Titans' unstoppable force. Having all this agility with no Titans just makes the whole thing look like a frantic mess to me.

I am not sure how the die-hards are going to take to this. I think it could go either way. It's not very Call Of Duty this year.

A lot of RIP CoD comments during the Twitch stream oddly enough considering Ghosts is the game I'm sure many would consider to be the lowest point for the franchise since 3. I actually think this looks like the best CoD in quite some time. While it's easy to draw parralels with Titanfall, It's not the only game to ever have jet packs and Titanfall wasn't exactly the massive, CoD killer we were all expecting either.

Looks cool as hell to me, always liked CoD trailers.

Crossing my fingers for this game. I haven't played a CoD that I didn't like (also haven't played Ghosts) but the last few have definitely not held my interest like earlier entries. My hope is this one has enough o'that early CoD spunk to jumpstart my enthusiasm for the series all over again.

I really loved Modern Warfare/World At War/Modern Warfare 2.
