I still think it looks bloody fantastic, but I can't ignore the internal turmoil that has been occurring at Irrational in the last few weeks.

That music is so inappropriate. I hate it when trailers have music that doesn't fit at all. At least it's not dubstep.

I respectfully completely disagree. The lyrics of the song match, because they talk about dieing for the ideals of America and the beast/imperialist nature of America at that time. On the tempo end it also goes well of soft spots in the beginning and end, and a high fast tempo to match the action.

Yesterday me and a friend spent three hours dissecting every frame, every design, brand name, propaganda poster and bit of architecture, spinning off into politics, history, philosophy etc. Might do a blog post about it later.

Point is, this game is for us, and it's looking like an amazing game to boot.

Pretty slick. Hype has been sustained.

Still think they should have called it Aeroshock. :)

I... I'm sorry, it looks overwrought and insufferable, just like Bioshock. I am not looking forward to the critical line, which will go something like this... The feel of the action is good, better than Bioshock, but still not approaching the halos and cods in terms of visceral feel. But it's trying to do so much more than those games. The environments are ... Zzzzz ... American exceptionalism... Zzzz ... More 'smart' stuff.... Zzzzz... But in the end, it's still fairly linear, but its an immersive (zzzz) experience while it lasts. This. Trailers can make any game look amazing. It takes a solid vision and years of hard work focused only on that vision without being forced to look at multiplayer, DLC and other ways of making the game marketable for it to actually be amazing. Ken Levine's the guy to do it, but something rotten has been happening at that studio. Let's hope they didn't reach for the moon and are now trying to slap together whatever they have left.

As I own the collectors edition of Bioshock 1 and 2, I should probably get that Songbird edition, right?

I mean, I did vocally say "dude!" when I saw the figurine. Sigh.

Doesn't this game kind of kill the first game's lore? Wasn't Rapture supposed to be like an amazing, one-of-a-kind, unbelievable feat? Doesn't having a city in the sky kind of kill that?

Shame they spent so much time and money making such a beautiful game, and then ruined it by not having, you know, any worthwhile gameplay. Yawn, crappy generic, easy, boring console shooting. Wouldn't it be nice if a developer actually spent all that effort on making a game you play, instead of one you walk around in while stuff happens around you?

Honestly whats wrong with a scripted game? I didn't play bioshock for its gunplay or systems, sure they were all solid and worked but the real draw of the game was the mystery of rapture, the atmosphere and the story, if they choose to cut gameplay down a little to create an even more engrossing story I'm all for it, if they can pull off great engaging gameplay and a equally engrossing world and story then all the better.

Also I'm gonna go ahead and guess that it takes place in its own universe separate from bioshock, they wouldn't just tear so much backstory apart for the sake of a sequel when they can just take it into another universe.

It looks fantastic and all, but.. Why did they replace Stephen Russel in the first place? I have no doubts over the final product's quality, but goddamnit give me Stephen Russel back!

I'm glad I'm not the only one who was saddened by the switch from Stephen Russell to Troy Baker. Oh well.

Aside from that, everything in this game seems phenomenal (and Baker isn't too bad).

The amount of scripted and largely on-rails stuff really makes this look like Call of Duty with a different graphical style. Yes, I know that the game does have more to it than mindless action, but frankly trying to sell BioShock using its action is not a great idea considering the shooting was pretty awful in both games. BioShock Infinite seems far more Half-Life 2 than System Shock 2 (not that the first BioShock was much good at that either), but it just stuns me that all the artistry and tech in the world ultimately serves nothing but to create pretty backdrops for what is another run of the mill shooter.

I guess the reason I'm bothered as much by this as I am is because BioShock at least had pretense of artistry to it... ultimately that really wasn't true and you basically had Doom with magic powers + a cool setting, but the way they are marketing Infinite does not seem at all to fit the series' strengths.

A lot of gamers are quick to say "don't judge a book by its cover", but frankly I think it's totally fair to form impressions based on how a game is promoted... you know, considering that's exactly what the publisher wants to show you about the game. And frankly, if a game looks like shit based on the promo material, I don't think that my status as a "leet gamer" should require me to plunk down $60 to learn it first-hand.

The fact is that we have both seen the same game footage. I'm making a judgement based on a) the footage itself b) the studio's past games c) the current industry conditions, but not on some sort of hope that "it won't be that bad." Because having played games for a long time, and having been let down so many times I have lost count by shit sequels, developers who have turned a good idea into garbage by trying to appeal to the lowest common denominator (see: the first BioShock), publishers who forbid excellent genres of games from ever seeing the light of day again... yeah, I think I have good reason to be skeptical and jaded when all I have to go on is "our corridor shooter looks pretty."

The atmosphere, setting and storyline of BioShock overrode any problems with the game's shooting mechanics, at least for me. (And I thought they were adequate if not great) What we don't really know about Infinite is what layers of gameplay Elizabeth's presence will add to the proceedings. There's also the roller coaster rails to consider in terms of movement and how that impacts combat.

We saw the extended gameplay bit last year which was of course scripted, and now this short trailer. A teaser trailer like this is naturally going to concentrate on the balls-out action, so I guess I'm willing to withhold judgment until the title is released. And I absolutely adored BioShock (I liked the sequel, too), so I'm willing to give Levine and Co. the benefit of the doubt.

AMAZING !!!! I hope this game isn't too demanding, because i plan on getting this for pc. i have a GTX 260 and an old quad core processor.

If it runs on console it will run on that PC, as your PC is drastically more powerful than the consoles are.

I doubt it will be that much more demanding than BioShock 1 or 2 if it's using the same engine.

It's not using the same engine. The first 2 games used a highly modified version of Unreal 2, while Infinite uses a highly modified version of Unreal 3.

Well it's still going to run fine, it's only Unreal, that engine is so easy to run these days I can't think of any games that are demanding from that engine unless you're running with PhysX on and SSAO. (like Arkham City)

If it uses DX11 features like tesselation then it could be very demanding. Just depends what features are included and what aren't. Remember that it took 3 580's to run the Unreal 3.5 Good Samaritan demo. If you jack up the AA and use some fancy motion blur and depth of field tricks then it is easy to kill even the most powerful computers with Unreal 3 games.
