  • Sun Aliens? I didn't really read it that way. Basically, super advanced humans (or at the very least, humanoids) are the root of mankinds beliefs in God and the supernatural in general. The mythological gods, Adam and Eve (as seen in "The Truth" video) and the two ancient orders all stem from this origin. Humans worshiping the sun came across as just a part of that belief, though I may ...

So yeah, been watching a bunch of movies lately (largely due to getting some of the PAX swine flu) and decided to check out some stuff that was mentioned on the Podcast. Turns out "They Live" is amazing, "Slither" is a lot of fun and "Loaded Weapon 1" is really, really stupid. Oh, and checked out "Cobra" some time ago and that movie is extraordinary in a lot of ways. Had a full day off on Friday so decided to go about compiling the ultimate list of films mentioned on the Bombcast, Twitter feeds and audioboos, as well as some stuff I just remember from the glory days of the Hotspot (yeah, kinda weird but got to listen to a lot of great music while doing so). So yeah, not sure its complete but its well on its way.

Some films were merely mentioned by a staff member and were not followed up with a verdict on whether or not they liked it. Some of those are on here as well with question marks as they are awaiting confirmation. The staff members I know for sure stated they liked it are mentioned in brackets. Its entirely possible others also enjoyed it, but this is all the information I have. Also, Drew is kind of under-represented on this list as he has only been on a handful of podcasts and I could not find his twitter feed (provided he has one).

Plan to update this list going forward. If you recall or discover more they endorse, site a source and I'll add it.

On the Updated Version
This topic was initially only in the Bombcast forum so I figured I'd bring it over to General Discussion. Its been updated since its original posting to include more films (thanks to Resident4t, marioncobretti, JJWeatherman, and rjayb89) and someone over at Giantbomb (Ryan perhaps?) stated the following concerning the older version I sent over there.

" That list is disturbingly spot-on. I guess I never realized how much we talk about movies on our god-damn video game podcast."

This is not necessarily a list of their favorite films, just films they have commented on or mentioned repeatedly. I have made some inferences based on information but these are few and founded in logic. Also, looking into finding some evidence that "Pimps Up, Hoes Down" should be included (thanks Lights_Up_The_Shaft for bringing that to my attention). Anyway, enjoy. Hope posting it here gets some more mileage out of it.

Well, I try not to buy used games whenever possible but its nice to have the option when I'm looking for older stuff. For example, finally found a copy of Frequency last year and that thing is mad old now so if I couldn't find it used I'd be out of luck. It sucks that the publishers don't get any money out of it but I actually like the fact there are game-specific retailers and I don't want that to go away so its kind of a necessary evil. And for the smaller, more niche titles, I don't tend to see that stuff on the "Used Game" shelves because those that were willing to buy it in the first place love it enough to hang onto it.

Really just need to vent a bit. Been spending a lot of time playing Scene It: Box Office Smash lately. Love movies, love games, perfect fit. Been playing online in order to get some achievements, which was going fine until I joined a game with one DLongBear, perhaps the most reprehensible individual I have encountered via Xbox Live in my two plus years of owning the console. All the typical stuff, ethnic slurs, homophobic hate speech repeated incessantly over and over, explicit sexual language whenever he got a question wrong or one of us ( myself and another gentleman were also in the game) got one right.

What was especially irritating is it just never stopped! He was literally spouting all these crude remarks non-stop for the entire duration of the twenty minute game. Whenever he seemed at a loss for actual words he just made annoying noises over his headset. Every game needs some kind of mute option. There may even be some way to do it but due to the time based nature of the game I didn't really have time to navigate the menus to make that happen. I figured the best way to shut him up was to completely destroy him in the game, which I did, but he seemed to stop trying in the final rounds therefore sucking some of the joy out of my victory.

I've certainly heard about the racist, sexist, hate-filled "gamer" but I hadn't really encountered one until today. Ugh, there, got that out of the way.

Again, that name is DLongBear. Avoid at all costs and perhaps submit some negative reviews should you encounter him.
